Sussex CCC Players' Club at English's of Brighton

Sussex CCC Players' Club at English's of Brighton

To begin December’s festive celebrations we welcomed the Sussex CCC Players’ Club to English’s of Brighton for an afternoon of oysters, champagne and a few of the finest dishes on our winter menu. As key sponsors of Sussex Cricket, members of the Players’ Club include some of the biggest businesses in Sussex, and friendly faces we’re sure you’ll recognise from the County Ground.

Guests enjoyed Laurent-Perrier upon arrival, before being seated for an afternoon of decadent dining and a demonstration in oyster shucking from Jonathan Speirs, who has been our head oyster shucker for over a decade, and a taste of fresh West Mersea rock oysters.

Course after course followed, as Players’ Club members enjoyed house smoked Loch Duart salmon, scallops and, for those with a sweet tooth, our double chocolate, caramel & nougat tart with caramel sauce.

As plates were cleared and brandy ordered, Sussex players Chris Nash and James Anyon stepped up for a Q&A, compered by Tony Cottey, before opening the floor for questions. Quizzed on the season’s injuries, international players and public support, Nash and Anyon stood up well to crowd’s intensive questioning.

We look forward to welcoming back Players’ Club members in 2016, when we’ll be launching our new spring menu, a refreshed tasting menu, and revising our wine list.

English’s of Brighton are proud sponsors of Sussex Cricket’s Junior Sharkz, and serve a very special Junior Sharkz children’s menu, giving our younger diners the chance to try oysters, lobster and other seafood dishes. Sharkz members also enjoy 10% off their entire bill on production of their membership card.

Workplace B’Ashes 2015

We were delighted to take part in this year’s Workplace B’ashes at Sussex CCC. The annual event allows companies from around the local area to enjoy a day of soft ball cricket at The County Ground with their colleagues.

It allowed for colleagues to interact in an unfamiliar environment and to build those internal relationships that are so important for businesses. Regardless of the individuals cricketing ability, or lack of it in our case, each member was vocally supported throughout, strengthening the bond between members of the team from different departments.

The day out was perfectly organise; with the competing teams placed into groups of 4. Each group was managed by one umpire who scored each game and was there to answer any questions about the rules and indeed any ‘suspect’ decisions. The setting was ideal; The County Ground is a stunning venue and to be able to compete on the outfield was a real honour, for me at least! The sun even decided to make a rare appearance which only made the day that much more enjoyable, especially for those looking to top up their holiday tan. The BBQ provided was first class and concluded a great day.

Although we suffered at the hands of more ‘skilled’ teams, the overall experience made it a memorable day for me and our team at Brighton Racecourse, we’re certainly planning on attending in 2016 once we’ve had some much needed net sessions!

I would not hesitate to recommend the Workplace B’ashes to other companies, not only does it allow you to meet with other businesses from the area, it provides a wonderful opportunity for your staff to enjoy a great teambuilding day out.

Thanks to all of the staff at Sussex CCC for a splendid day out.
