The Marketing & PR office view
Sussex CCC's Marketing and PR push for 2014
There can't be many better views from offices in Brighton & Hove than the one we presently enjoy from the media centre while working with Sussex County Cricket Club. Fans can be assured that despite the horrendous weather recently, Head Groundsman Andy
Mackay and his team are doing a fantastic job with the carpet of green that Sussex CCC and The Sharks will be performing on when the season starts on April 6th.
So who are we and why are we gazing out across the hallowed turf at Hove?
About six months ago, new club Chief Executive, Zac Toumazi, started to look at how best to manage all the marketing and PR at the County Ground. Subsequently, Zac brought us, Cobb PR and Pleece & Co, in to work with his internal team - Chris Gape from Cobb PR and Gary Pleece of Pleece & Co. In a nutshell we are here to make a lot more noise about the Club, The Sharks and the wonderful onsite facilities.
Both companies have worked with the club for several years now and we're passionate about the club and cricket and we're very excited about this new direction for Sussex CCC. We have lots of initiatives that are just beginning to blossom, so keep an eye out.
Following a presentation to the SCCC Board where we set out our strategic plans for the next few years, we are steaming ahead. Fortunately, in addition to the inspiring views, we are working with some really talented people at the County Ground such as Adam Matthews and Tom Rose, who are both great assets for the club. We're also working closely with the commercial side of the business, namely Tony Cottey, Mark Judges and James Potten, as well as with the fantastic in-house catering team, headed up by Kevin Berry. Busy days!
It’s no secret that cricket often or not falls into the shadow cast by top flight football and in a city where you have a great club like the Albion pitching for Premier League status, that isn’t about to change. However, Sussex County Cricket Club has a lot to shout about and this coming season is no different. While results last summer were disappointing there is an air of optimism around the place that you can’t help but notice.
Like the cricket, our work is measured by results, bigger crowds, more members and increases in event bookings, such as weddings. While we are not about to rival the Amex for crowds at the first LV Championship match, we will punch above our weight and make sure sports fans in Brighton & Hove know where to go to see professional cricketers at the top of their game while the footballers are enjoying some R&R on some far flung beach.

Business networking with first-class cricket
The Boundary Club is Sussex County Cricket Club’s unique business networking group, providing an incomparable cocktail of business, food and cricket since 2010.
Our first event in May 2010 welcomed 25 businesses to Hove with the backdrop of first-class cricket, great guest speakers and a three-course lunch. Since then, it has grown from strength to strength. We now boast over 130 members and have welcomed speakers such as Wayne Hemingway, Alistair Hignall, and Chris Adams to The BrightonandHoveJobs.com County Ground.
Membership includes an invitation for you to attend a minimum of eight networking events across the year, the majority of which coincide with a first-class cricket match here at Hove. It also includes a pair of transferable Executive Memberships, season tickets to the Club, so you can come to all of our home games throughout the season, including the high-octane rush of the hugely popular Natwest T20 Blast.
The Executive Memberships not only allow you to enjoy our fixtures during the 2014 season, but as they are transferable, they can be used as prizes, incentives or can be given to family and friends. As Executive Members, you can also enjoy the private bar and terrace in our Mayo Wynne Baxter Executive Suite, located on the south east corner of the ground - the prime location to enjoy Sussex in action.
Our Boundary Club events are always popular and they usually take place in our Montefiore Hospital Boundary Rooms, which can cater to up to 250 people. You can arrive from 11am to enjoy the morning session of cricket and informal networking before tucking in to a delicious three-course lunch, served from 1pm. Once lunch is finished, it’s over to our guest speakers to talk about their chosen subject, after which you’re welcome to stay and enjoy the rest of the day’s play and further your client database.
Tony Cottey, ex-Sussex CCC professional cricketer and our Business Relationship Manager, is the MC for all of our Boundary Club events. You’ll love Tony’s combination of humour and storytelling, which, along with his years of experience, make him the perfect host.
