SCCT - Sussex  Cricket in the  Community Trust

Cricket Crowd image

The SCCT/SYCET charity was formed 25 years ago and its broad purpose is to create opportunities and facilities for young people in Sussex to experience the pleasures and social benefits of playing cricket. A fitting slogan for what we do would be “From the Playground to the County Ground”. Each year some £50,000 is raised from donations, both large and small, from cricket lovers in Sussex, in the UK, and in some cases from other cricketing countries including India and Australia.

England’s Ashes ‘Keeper took the catch at Melbourne that ended the match and secured the series. He then went on to take seven catches and score a vital century in the final Test at Sydney. A product of the Sussex Youth system Matt was representing Sussex at age group levels throughout most of the 1990s and has graduated from the playground, to the Test arena via the PROBIZ County Ground, Hove.

THE SUSSEX WOMEN’S XI…won the County Championship in 2010 for the fifth time in seven years and were presented with their trophy at Buckingham Palace by HRH The Duke of Edinburgh, patron of the ‘Lord’s Taverners’. Holly Colvin, Laura Marsh and Caroline Atkins subsequently joined the England Women’s squad which has been in Australia this winter contesting the Women’s Ashes, ODIs and T20 series, with their Australian counterparts.

THE SUSSEX SHARKS VISUALLY IMPAIRED TEAM…play their home games at the Sussex Cricket Academy Ground at Blackstone, and 2010 saw them winning their first major trophy. They were triumphant finalists in the British Blind Sport & Primary Club knockout competition held at the Hampshire Rose Bowl.

THE SUSSEX YOUNG CRICKETERS SILVER ANNIVERSARY APPEAL..has been launched to raise an additional £50,000 in 2011 to fund the upgrading of facilities at the Blackstone Academy ground which is home to the Sussex Youth Squads and Sussex Sharks Visually Impaired team.

YOU CAN FIND DETAILS OF THIS PROJECT AND APPEAL BY CLICKING HERE TO ACCESS ONE MINUTE’S MOVING FOOTAGE WHICH INCLUDES SUPPORTIVE WORDS FROM MICHAEL YARDY, RECORDED BEFORE HE DEPARTED TO AUSTRALIA WITH THE ENGLAND ONE DAY INTERNATIONAL AND T20 SQUAD…

Michael is yet another example of a Sussex youngster who has succeeded at County and International level.
