Sussex Women have won the South Division One T20 competition at Wellington College, Berkshire and are now through to the National Finals in September, where they will be looking to retain the trophy.

In the first game, Sussex beat Essex by 74 runs. Sussex scored 166 for one with Georgia Elwiss and Georgia Adams both making half centuries and Captain Sarah Taylor finishing on 42 not out. In reply Essex could only muster 92 for nine.

Sussex then beat Middlesex by seven wickets with five overs to spare. Middlesex finished on 100 for eight and in reply, Sussex were 101 for three.

On day two, Sussex lost to Kent by seven wickets. Sussex scored 113 for six and Kent chased it down with three overs to spare.

With Kent losing to Middlesex and Essex losing all three games, Sussex, Kent and Middlesex were all tied on eight points, luckily Sussex came out on top on net run rate, with Kent a close second.

In the final, Sussex lost the toss and were put into bat. Alexia Walker scored an excellently 50 leading Sussex to a score of 114 for six. Kent lost early wickets but a strong partnership between England pair Lydia Greenway and Tammy Beaumont left Kent needing just four runs off the last over.

17 year old Freya Davis took the ball for the last over, taking a magnificent caught and bowled second ball. Greenway was then caught on the boundary by Elwiss and Kent required two off two balls. Two dot balls from Davis ensured the win and a place in the final for Sussex.

Squad: Sarah Taylor (Capt), Arran Brindle (VC), Georgia Adams, Holly Colvin, Freya Davis, Georgia Elwiss, Chiara Green, Izi Noakes, Hannah Phelps, Paige Schofield, Rebecca Silk, Alexia Walker.

Sussex Women's Cricket Association

The Sussex Women’s Cricket Association, under the guidance of the Sussex Cricket Board, run everything to do with Women & Girls County cricket in Sussex.

In the last nine years, the Sussex Women’s team have won the County Championship five times, in 2003, 2004, 2005, 2008 and 2010. The Women have also reached the County T20 semi final in the last two years.

In 2011 the Sussex age groups had their most successful season, with the Under 17s winning the County Championship, the Under 11s winning the Arundel Festival, the 13s were runners up in the County Championship final and the under 15s reached the semi final of the County Championship.

The 2012 season looks even more exciting, as well as having the Under 11, 13, 15, 17 and Women’s squad, the Sussex Women’s cricket association will be running three new team, Under 11 and 13 development sides and an Under 19 squad.

There are currently four Sussex players in the England set up; Arran Brindle, Holly Colvin, Georgia Elwiss and Sarah Taylor

County Age Groups

The 2011 season saw the Girls County Age Group squads have their best season. The Under 17s won the County Championship and were unbeaten all season, while the Under 11s won the Arundel Festival. The 13s reached the County Championship final and were runners-up, and the Under 15s reached the semi-finals of the County Championship, finishing fourth in the Country.

The 2012 sees the Under 13s, 15s and 17s compete in the County Championship again, where the 17s will look to keep hold of the trophy while the 13s and 15s will look to go one better this season. The Under 11s will continue to play friendly matches through the summer with their chance to compete for the Arundel Festival trophy again at the end of the season.

This year there will be three new County age group squads, an Under 11 development side, an Under 13 development side and an Under 19 squad, all playing in friendly matches.
