James Potten, 28, is Business Development Manager at Sussex County Cricket Club. He’s been with Sussex since 2010 and lives in Eastbourne with his wife and son.
Here he describes a typical day in the office at The BrightonandHoveJobs.com County Ground.
“My day starts fairly early – I’m up at 6.30am and get showered and dressed before feeding myself and my 6 month old son, Ollie. I leave for work at 7.30am by car, arrive at 8.30am with just enough time to make a cup of tea before the day begins and the phones get busy!
First actions are to plan out the day ahead, confirming any meetings and any immediate actions before managing our LinkedIn company page. The historical background of the Club is unique, and an area which I really develop through B2B and social media. If there’s a game on, then it can get very hectic, especially with the Twenty20!
The rest of the day is filled with dealing with incoming tickets, sales and events calls, and communicating with sponsors and our database on upcoming events and promotional offers. I spend a lot of time interacting with local businesses to ensure that Sussex maintains our great relationship with the local community. Our new Chief Executive, Zac Toumazi, has enabled me to be more focused on developing our non-match day revenue streams, something which I am extremely excited about.
Hospitality is a key part of what Sussex is about and I’m always actively preparing for our next fixture here at the ground. Organising our Boundary Club networking event is also a huge passion of mine, I like to ensure the day is of the highest quality and our members & guests enjoy a unique experience every time they visit us.
Around 5pm I’ll leave work and begin the journey home to spend the evening with my family, before it all begins again!
You can contact James on firstname.lastname@example.org if you have any questions you’d like to ask him about his role at the club.
