Disability Day 2015

The 5th annual Sussex Cricket in the Community Disability Day took place on Monday 18th May 2015.

Unlike the last 4 years Monday 18th May did not dawn bright and clear, in fact it was the opposite
– grey and wet! After a reshuffle and the creative use of a mixture of indoor spaces around the ground we had a mixture of different activities to offer our 200 participants when they started to arrive.

With a team of enthusiastic coaches and buoyed by the 60 volunteers who kindly offered their time, including BrightonandHoveJobs.com and Jointing Technology staff, and City College and Worthing High students, we offered a variety of activities from catching, throwing and batting skills, table cricket, our Roadshow inflatable equipment and some small sided games and the Visual Impairment zones.

Although the participants got a bit soggy going between the areas it did not dampen any spirits and a successful day was enjoyed by all who took part, both participants and volunteers!

Feedback from participants included Orla from Aldingbourne Trust commented that the best thing about the day was: “Seeing our clients so engaged with the activities, staff and volunteers. Some had never been before so it was a real experience for them and lovely to witness the clients that had returned were remembered by the staff. Very professional and friendly."

Also Gary from Southview Close commented the best thing being “Seeing our clients get the chance to engage in various activities, communicating with the staff, volunteers and other clients that attended the day. All the clients thoroughly enjoyed the experience.”

Well done to all the coaches for delivering a fantastic event and adapting so quickly, and a HUGE thank you to all our amazing volunteers who had so much enthusiasm and energy and helped the day work as smoothly as it did
