It is a real possibility that the playing budget could be cut and players like RHB, RMJ and Kirtley may not be replaced. That would be a risky strategy though. We have lost many experienced players over the last 12 months, Lewry, Kirtley, RMJ, Hoppo, Dwayne Smith plus the talented RHB and effectively replaced them with Monty Panesar and James Anyon. Our other two recruits, the youngsters Luke Wells and Matt Machan are nowhere near ready for regular first team action. Some of the younger players who are further down the line have been given extended opportunities in the side and have struggled with consistency in the second division. We would I think find it very difficult to compete in the top division were that the case.

Wells is nowhere near ready mate?  Sounds a bit dumb today.   Of the youngsters only Gatt and Thornely have had an extended run and struggled.  The rest have been impressive without a deserved extended run.

I think the ground redevelopment has impacted on our playing budget.  Last year very few of the players received a raise.  Although we are chasing Sidebottom and Van Jaarsveld who would both cost over £100k each I would think.

I wonder how much Amjad Khan would command for a salary?

neither ! - the playing budget would reduce if number of 20/20 games reduced - otherwise should remain about the same

I guess the Brown/Hodd situation is tricky to handle because they will both want to play regular first team cricket

Do you think Aga and Liddle will be renewed?  Would potentially free up some money to pay for Amjad plus others...

i believe aga is under contract for 2011.  anyon certainly is.  liddle? dunno.

brown has (currently) overtaken gatts with the bat. but does he see himself as a batsman or batsman-keeper?  probably the latter.
