A young Irish lad, Shane Getkate, collapsed with a suspected heart attack playing for our under 19s this week. Apparently now in a stable condition. Poor lad.

The fact that this caused a televised T20 game to be abandoned probably didn't help Yorkshire's cause.

In mitigation I believe Raffiq captained England u-19 before the Yorkshire game.Dont recall ECB criticising themselves for an unauthorised player.

Correct. The player involved was Azeem Rafiq - the lad who got into trouble for a misdemeanour with facebook last year.

The difference between the two cases is that at the time Rafiq did not hold a UK passport, so was an unauthorised overseas player, whereas Hussy was properly qualified and it was just a paperwork cock-up.

Yes. Would have been my No1 pick if we had gone for an o/s batsman. Lets hope Notts sort out the registration right this time.

On that point, weren't Yorks penalised 2 points when they played an incorrectly registered player in a T20 match a couple of years back? Cost them a q/f berth if I remember rightly. £600 for Hussey (£100 per match) is peanuts in comparrison.

Helps to have friends in high places, I guess.

No. We signed him because he pledged to be available for 2 years and not play for Pakistan. Just about immediately he agreed to play for Pakistan again. Im January he again said he would be available for the full 2 years as he wouldnt tour with Pakistan during our season. He then just about immediately said hed changed his mind and would go on the tour to WIndies thus missing the first 6 weeks of the season.

So we signed Mo Youssuf to cover the 6 weeks.

Hugely enjoyably, Pakistan then didnt select Younis for the tour anyway so hes in limbo.

We have had enough and canceled the contract. For me its a result cos he was a bad idea anyway IMO and we do now have a pressing need for a spinner.

Mo Youssuf, by the,way, says, only half jokingly, that he cant wait for his 6 weeks to be over - he's exhausted already by all this having to field as well as bat.
