Not sure about popping down to Lords because quite a few T20 players aren't in the Test lineup. Have to agree that the PM invitation shouldn't impinge on the players playing schedules and if it does they shouldn't go.

All this showboating started with Blair and that f***ing "cool brittania" and has been copied by Brown and Cameron, none of whom have any interest in cricket unlike John Major where players would know the reception was meaningful.

Anyway, you lot shouldn't be talking politics should you, so no more posts on this please.

sorry dave i cant agree. this is simply political PR. not sure how long the reception takes - maybe half an hour or an hour of meet/greet. bit of a wander round the garden and some photos. presumably at a time to ensure that all tomorrows news bulletins will be able to cover it.

take Tredwell from kent. Kent played Scotland on Saturday and play Durham at Riverside tomorrow. So it is likely Kent will have stayed up north. So tredwell has to make a return trip to the Riverside. madness

Surely a much more sensible option would have been for Cameron to pop down to Lords during the 1st test this week and to shake a few hands and say well done to Andy Flower and squad. Or for the members of the squad who were availabe to pop over to Downing street during one of the evenings.

I think Mr Cameron and co are quite busy so it's more a case of them fitting it in whenever they can. There probably hasn't been a single day since the start of the season where no team has played so whatever day they pick then you're likely to screw someone. Just be proud that a couple of Sussex players are going to Downing Street as world champions.

I can't find any info about this meeting via google. I am presuming the reception must be during the day (even more stupid and disrespectful) and not the evening. Otherwise, Yardy and Wright could train it up from Brighton Station after Monday's close of play.

bin thinking about this during the afternoon and i think it shows a real lack of respect for the integrity of the game.

no problem with the players getting the recognition. england womens team had a reception last year and im sure it will be a great experience.

but imagine if this was football and the reception was planned to be held on a saturday afternoon depriving some of the premiership clubs of their players. it just would never happen.

plus mixing politics and sport is just one big media spin-doctoring propaganda type event, used by politicians to look good by association. shane warne had it right about the MBEs the 2005 Ashes winning side all got. he reckoned Collingwood should hand his back as he only played one test and got diddly-sqwat runs. this current england side has just won the only ever world one-day tournament so should they now get MBEs?
