Goodwin receives official reprimand from ECB

Anyway, I'm delighted Muzza has an opportunity this season; and what I've seen so far, I am impressed. I just hope he signs another 3 year contract and stays with Sussex into his early 40s. If Ramprakash can do it, why not Goodwin?

I believe that Sweaty is right and that the long term tenure of the captaincy would have been a key decider. I'd speculate that it was probably discussed with the senior players like Murray and Jason Lewry at the time which is why the change was managed so well.

I don't think there would have been any objections at all had Murray Goodwin taken the reins back in 2008. From the players or the supporters.

This latest interview portrays a cool, calm, collected and nonchalant Muzza, who is not only enjoying the Sussex captaincy but after his 142, perhaps, rises to the task. His favourite phrase I note is "only as good as your next game!"

One wonders why Murray has permitted captaincy to pass him by. His maturity and experience has allowed him to step into Yardy's boots with ease. And as Yards is performing so well for England, he may well be called upon again this season.

He's certainly doing a great job as a stand in and I believe he would have made a fine Sussex skipper had the job been offered to him. I'm sure I remember that he tentatively threw his hat in the ring for the captaincy when Adams flirted with Yorkshire in late 2006. Once he (Adams) decided that being a Tyke was not for him, and was reinstated as captain, it was never mentioned again. 

All the more credit goes to the man in my opinion as he made no murmer of dissent then, just got on with the job. I am sure he has quietly helped Mike Yardy to grow so effectively into the role.

you're probaby not too far off the mark there rana. one of the articles i have read about the proposed changes mentioned a "Premier League" and a "Division One North" and "Division One South".
