"I imagine that when that football game on the 18th is going on I will be on the M23/M25 on my way home from the cricket and that my journey should be eased by the lack of traffic on the roads"
yes it should be and i hope you will have enjoyed a great game of cricket from the terrace aew ....
however it makes little commercial sense to ignore the many people in Sussex (plus a few from Pants) who enjoy both football and cricket and to ignore the fact that the biggest sporting event of this year is the football World Cup and that England will still be in it on the 18th June!
am not sure of the exact timings of a 20 20 game but it must (have been) be possible to accommodate both on the 18th June, as appears to be the case on the 23rd (Slovenia) and something Glamorgan will surely try to do at Cardiff on the 12th (USA)
incidentally if England win their group and then go on to reach the quarter final at Johannesburg, the Middlesex game at Hove on 2 Juli at 19.10 could be similarly affected - i for one dont want to be wishing England an early exit in the world cup so that SCCC get full benefit from a full house at Hove
and if England fail to win their group but finish second, the Kent game at Hove on the 27th June clashes with the last 16 game at Bloemfontein (against Germany if they win their group) on the Sunday afternoon
(we have however managed to avoid arranging a game on the world cup semi finals evenings, and the Arundel game on Sunday 11th (starting at 2.40pm) will be over before the Final starts at 7.30pm ! )
lots of "ifs and buts" here but there could be a lot of sussex money resting on the results of a few minor footie matches
ps come on The Albion" (today at orient!) :-)
