Welcome michael and good luck.

Michael Chadwick

Re: Michael Chadwick on trial

as ive said before, we really need to see at least 2 or 3 of these youngsters (and im including Messrs Liddle & Aga in that) to really make some genuine progress this year, demonstrated by match-winning performaces at second x1 level or steady, reliable or promising performances when selected for the first team. Dont care who it is, but this lad has as much chance as any - So good luck to him
I would also like us to get to a point where we can narrow the field down a bit and consequently have a decent idea of who might make it and who will not b y the end of teh season

Re: Michael Chadwick on trial

So is Chadwick a bowler or a batsman? Originally it was announced that we were trialing a young Yorkshire batsman though all the photos on the above link are of him bowling.

Re: Michael Chadwick on trial

hes a bowler primarily

I agree with you we do need to whittle the field down a bit. At 25 and 26 and with 3 and 6 years as a professional cricketer should Aga and Liddle be considered at the same level to these guys?

It's quite possible we could see the following 14 seamers as well as Aga, Liddle, Kirtley and Keegan:

        Age/Matches/Wickets/Ave/BB/4wI/5wI

Adkin 20/17/21/35/4-33/2/0
Bernadin 19/3/3/63/1-11
Chadwick 20 Yet to make 2XI debut
Dexter ? Yet to make 2XI debut
Endersby 18/1/2-0-10-0
Glover 17/1/3/11/3-33
Hatchett 20/8/6/48/2-21
Nussbaumer 22 Yet to make his 2XI debut
Peatfield 19 Yet to make his 2XI debut
Rollings 20/3/2/48/1-32
Smith 27/1/4/45/3-81
Thorpe 19/4/9/23/4-89/1/0
Wood 25/24/19/49/4-34/1/0
Young 19/1/1/23/1-10

I'd like to see the above list whittled down to a maximum of 8 players by the end of this season.

Re: Michael Chadwick on trial

Well looking at that list you would think we can find one or two  that could step up with some good coaching and got agree hope it gets whittled down to a smaller group to work with for the end of this season.

Re: Michael Chadwick on trial

Robbo on Chadwick :"With Ed Joyce’s injury, we have another opportunity to take a look at Michael Chadwick who remains with us on a trial basis."
Which gives me the impression he's more a batsman who bowls than a bowler who bats.

Surely that's not giving them a chance though, Mart.

Who's Smith - surely you haven't got Dwayne in there ???

Re: Michael Chadwick on trial

Sorry but why are 25 and 27 year old club bowlers on the list ??.

Re: Michael Chadwick on trial

SPSL I couldn't agree with you more and these would be the first two I would knock off the list. Smith is 27 year old Northumberland league bowler.

Here is Chadwick record for Yorkshire 2XI. Impressive debut but not much else!

I could be wrong but I believe Grubby and Kirts sang his praises from the Port Elizabeth bowling clinic/trip, and Ed being injured allows another body to go on tour rather than being a like-for-like replacement.

Re: Michael Chadwick on trial

Chadwick isn't meant to be a direct replacement for Joyce and they were obviously always planning to take 18 players. But for the fact he has recently quit University Wells wouldn't have been going.

Re: Michael Chadwick on trial

SP11 couldnt agree more lidds and rags shouldnt be on that list ,it should only be under 23s
as 25 and 26 year olds should be in and around the 1st team sqaud not stopping young bowlers progressing through the academy and being tested at second tier level, how else are the coaches able to judge there progress. As for 25 and 26 year olds if there not trusted get rid.

Agree 100%. 12 of the 14 bowlers listed by me above are under 23. Only Wood and Smith are older. At 25 and 26 Aga and Liddle shouldn't be in 2XI team. Machan (19), Wells (19), Beer (21) and Brown (21) are the four other players likely to start in 2XI.

Re: Michael Chadwick on trial

Looking forward to chadwick and young progressing through to become fine cricketers for sussex and well done to robbo and the other coaches to make sure the club stays succesful in the future and these signings send out all positives for me.

Re: Michael Chadwick on trial

Be interesting to see the answer in Sept, to Q.6 on the predictions quiz regarding which player under 23 will take the most CC wickets. Of the bowlers U23 only Beer has a realistic chance of getting a game in the CC, what chance has any seamer under 23 got of playing 1st XI this season?

Re: Michael Chadwick on trial

indeed it will DonT - I've gone for Chadwick in my predictions.  Does Beer as (third) spinner and most people's tip really have a better chance of a CC game with Monty and Rayner both ahead of him ?

Is Chadwick likely to get a game with Rana, Collymore, Martin-Jenkins, Wright, Kirtley, Anyon, Aga and Liddle ahead of him in the pecking order.

I fully expect Beer to make a championship appearence at some point during the season.

Re: Michael Chadwick on trial

Cant see us playing 3 specialist spinners in the same XI, when Yards & Nash could fulfill that role should such a situation arise. Surely Will would only get in due to injury to Monty or Ollie for a game with a pitch that'd definetly turn.
But we've been over this before, if Aga or Liddle haven't forced their way into the 1st XI by July they should be released IMO.

Re: Michael Chadwick on trial

Surely Beer should get into the CC Ist team on merit; ie, if he is bowling well for the 2nds and in one-dayers... and Ollie and/or Monty are underperforming.  With young players knocking on the door the 1st XI must be a meritocracy, not a closed shop.
