A very rapid fall from grace after a good series against Oz - was it that daft shot that did it, TC?

That added to 71 ODIs of previous...hard to change the widely held few that he has very poor shot selection...wild swipe to midwicket or wild swipe to midwicket

Re: Dwayne Smith

I'm pretty sure i saw him on the bench for Deccan yesterday in the ipl which suprised me as the West Indies were playing aswell, they must have really lost confidence in him to send him away like that with a series still being played.

Re: Dwayne Smith

If he does not play in the 2020 WC there would be doubts as to him playing here as an OS.

Re: Dwayne Smith

I thought it was OK for this year cos he had a contract

Re: Dwayne Smith

TC said he was on a retainer and not a proper contract . If this is true and he does not play in 2020 WC I think he wont get a work permit. One certainty if he does  not play another 6 odi he will never Kolpak again or play as an OS . His days of playing CC appear numbered

Re: Dwayne Smith

It's probably just as well we signed Dilshan as it doesn't sound like Smith is going to be available. If Yasir is unavailable for Twenty20 competition for Sussex I would sign Rana as his replacement.

Re: Dwayne Smith

Confirmed..Dwayne is NOT in the squad ...end of WI road for Dwayne amd because of new work permit rules he cant re-kolpak

Re: Dwayne Smith

at the last quiz i spoke to Brooksy about Dwaynes eligibility and he seemed to indicate that he would be ok - now its possible he didnt understand my question, but to me this may mean that all is not lost

Re: Dwayne Smith

before the last quiz Dwayne was  still in the WI  30 man squad .He is now dropped and that is probably the end of the road for him . Having played recently and had a contract with them may mean he can play as an OS for this season . I imagine it will be his last.

Still amazed by WI's decision on Dwayne

hes either a scapegoat for one defeat or has fallen out badly with someone (may be Gayle who looked none too happy when Dwayne got out) - poor lad has had a few setbacks hasnt he

Re: Dwayne Smith

dwayne has been poorly treated. hope he comes back to his second home.

i get the impression he was loving it at sussex and then someone changed the rulebook.

Re: Dwayne Smith

If Rana is not going to happen, surely we could now sign Dwayne to cover for Yasir?

Murray Goodwin is my God.

I'm not sure we can as he hasn't played sufficient international games (only 9 not 15) recently.

Re: Dwayne Smith

On the other counties post I put the rules of OS and Kolpak . One of them was to have a central contract with an Int team for the recent season.Peterson plays for Derby as a Kolpak because he was under contract with SA this winter.

I suggested Dwayne could be ok if he has played recently and had a contract .Well I have looked at cricinfos lists of int players and Dwayne is not listed as central contract player for this winter so by that he should not get a work permit.

Under ECB rules Dwayne wont get a work permit. The best we can hope for is ECB will let him play 2020 as he did have a short term contract and played recent ints . Dwayne certainly wont be Kolpaking again and unless he gets aEU passport  or gets his WI place back wont be coming back in 2011 .

Great shame but we are not the only county that has lost a Kolpak .I am not moaning as the ECB set minimum guidlines for recent Int and Dwayne has not met them . I think we are lucky that Murray is allowed back, having finished with Ints 10 years a go and is now Australian which should not qualify him as Kolpak, and also Corey can continue , having  last played  Ints 3 years ago .

Re: Dwayne Smith

" .I am not moaning as the ECB set minimum guidlines for recent Int and Dwayne has not met them "

You do appreciate that because of his contract with Sussex the ECB prevented Dwayne playing for WI ,thus ensuring he woud not be able to play for Sussex under their revised rules. Is that worthy of a moan? I think Dwayne is the only one otherr than perhaps Jacques screwed like that.

Re: Dwayne Smith

ECB did not prevent him playing he decided that as WI did not want him so he would Kolpak.I know you are unhappy with it but you do not really believe Dwayne can play for the WI  whilst still playing for Sussex as a non OS Kolpak .

The Kolpak rules are the worst in world sport and a complete joke  but you cannot spend 8 months of the year playing Tests for the WI but then decide to be non OS in England.

Re: Dwayne Smith

Surely if Dwayne has been dropped from the West Indies, doesn't have a central contract and hasn't played 15 ODI he doesn't qualify as a Kolpak or for a work permit end of story?

But you do appreciate the catch 22.Dwayne has played over 70 ODIs but the period over which he must play 15 is effectively six months as the prevbious two years he was on a Kolpak contract. My complaint is the change of goalposts...you can kolpak son provided you agree not to play for WI...You cant continue to Kolpak son because you didnt play foer wI when we said you couldnt.

Re: Dwayne Smith

I see your point but several players have fallen to this . 15odi in last 2years seems ok for any current players but whereas they said 5 Tests in last 5 years they could have said 30odi in last 5 years . But Dwayne probably still would not be ok .

You probably quess you wont get sympathy from me as I would like kolpaks all stopped and become OS with 2 OS per team . If Sussex then want Corey and Muz thats our 2 OS .

Re: Dwayne Smith

miserable old git!

I need a fix of live cricket .

Now I dont disagree with you but see it more like sweaty. No restrictions at all (or few) but subsidies only for those who play 8 England qualifieds and additional  payments for more, youth,or England call ups. That way rich clubs like Surrey could play all martians but get no ECB money

Re: Dwayne Smith

Would go along with that . The current system is a joke due to a loophole in an EU law which does not affect any other sport

Re: Dwayne Smith

Surrey have nine English qualified players in their starting XI one more than Sussex and 12 players out of 21 under the age of 27 whereas Sussex have 14 out of 25. Surrey maybe buying their success but three of their five new players are 23 or under.
