Topic: Clayton CC v Sussex Staff, Hove County Ground, Mon 28th June

As some of you may know a few messageboarders play for the mighty Clayton Cricket Club who are celebrating their centenary in 2010 and one of the events is a t20 game against the Sussex staff at the ground on Monday 28th June, starting at 6pm.

The ground will be open to all so it would be great to see as many people there as possible, all proceeds will go towards Sussex Young Cricketers and the bar will be open along with a raffle to raise some money. If anyone does live close by, wants to laugh at a few messageboarders or show their support for Sussex Young Cricketers please do come down.

There are no plans to have any famous faces on show unless Sussex staff captain, Dave Brooks sneaks in any ringers! There will be a few notorious messageboarders like Sweatysock and Xian 44 playing as well as myself if anyone wants to come and throw rotten tomatoes at me - just make sure you buy a raffle ticket or donate to Sussex Young Cricketers for us!

A big thank you to Dave Brooks and everyone at Sussex for making it possible for us to celebrate our centenary in probably the best way that we could have, it's a fantastic opportunity for us club players to get a game on the hallowed turf and we'll be doing our best to bring as many people along as possible to make it a great night that we'll remember forever and make a nice bit of money for a very worthy cause.

Hopefully we'll see a few faces on the 28th June...

Cheers,
Big D

Congratulations on organising this excellent event and congratulations to all at Sussex for enabling it to happen. It is yet another sign that we are part of something really special.

A Club Centenary is a great thing to celebrate and to have a match on the historic Hove Ground will be a great way to mark Clayton's Century. I very much hope to be able to join you at Hove on that day.

Good luck and let's hope some money is raised.

Are you needing an umpire Big D? smile  As you will be on a different side from Dave Brooks you both won't be able to moan when I make the correct decision!!!  smile

Excellent news.

Dave (big one that is!) can you remind us nearer the time? Us oldies have short memories!

Ticket Update

Sales for this fixture are very strong we suggest any cricket fan wishing to see one of the season's great games get their ticket soon.

Consideration is being given to opening the north stand and Sky are reviewing their schedule with a view to showing the game live.

FIZIO young man? Is that the Scottish or Italian spelling? Or the bloke that brings the champers to the victorious Clayton side perhaps...

Re: Clayton CC v Sussex Staff, Hove County Ground, Mon 28th June

a thriller at Hove tonight - the Sussex staff made 161 off their 20 overs and the mighty Clayton won with two wickets and one ball to spare, I came in with 2 runs needed and Nick Wood bowling at full throttle  - never even saw it but managed to scramble a bye - we then hit the winning run

Re: Clayton CC v Sussex Staff, Hove County Ground, Mon 28th June

..... but most of all a fun evening to remember and many thanks to the Sussex staff, led by Brooksy, for hosting the event and making the evening so memorable for all those who took part

Re: Clayton CC v Sussex Staff, Hove County Ground, Mon 28th June

Congratulations to Clayton, went to Hove with Mrs and Miss HC, lovely evening in the sunshine, but had to leave before the finale, so missed Sweaty's fine innings, but his canny fielding positons were a joy to behold. wink

You should have donned the creams big fella. I'm tipping there wouldn't be a lot of blocking!  wink

Re: Clayton CC v Sussex Staff, Hove County Ground, Mon 28th June

Well done chaps, sounds like a great night and you even managed a win without your star bowler!  wink

Hope to hear about it all and see some pics when I'm back...

I enjoyed the game guys, even though I was sensationally caught at long off after about three or four balls, and I finished on the losing side!  neutral

Yes Adam that was sean(wrightysrightstuff) lulling you into a false sense of security with a misfield before taking that blinder. One day he may be almost as good a fielder as his old man.
First time I have ever played with the White ball and whilst sighting was ok with the black screen when batting I found it hellishly hard to see it in the field against the pavilion and all the other White buildings around the ground. I will never heckle a misfield again-promise!
Once again many thanks to all concerned for a memorable evening.

Xian - I heard a rumour from my sickbed that Brooksy couldnt lay a bat on you. Would you say that is fair comment?

Re: Clayton CC v Sussex Staff, Hove County Ground, Mon 28th June

I think thats fair comment Jon. I must say it was lucky for me that Matt Wood sportingly retired after reaching his 50 and giving my length ball a bit of tap, bringing in the slightly less explosive batting of the CEO. A delicate cut for 4 off the other bowler looked ominous, but once I got him down my end it was reminiscent of Bill Athey in the Glamorgan semi-final of 93. The only time the ball got off the square was a thick inside-edge for one. So I followed Matts' example and took myself off to spare his blushes wink
