Re: Rory Hamilton-Brown offered Surrey captaincy?

Kim,

Just imagine how many more wickets Ali would have taken if the 2004 season wasn't marred by injury along with the latter half of 2008; as well as much of the 2009 season. Mushtaq took over 460 wickets in 5 seasons for Sussex.

I would suggest, Ali's cricket career has been affected by injury. He might well have become an England regular and a consistent top wicket taker in county cricket.

Rory Hamilton-Brown prepared to take hard line to revive Surrey (The Times)

In presenting Hamilton-Brown as the figurehead of a broader vision yesterday, Chris Adams, the cricket manager, said that the “Surrey swagger” was a strut of the past and called for patience in a quest to become “the team of the decade” in England and beyond.

According to Adams, who flew to South Africa and back over a weekend to tempt Hamilton-Brown to leave Sussex, the club have “put significant people in significant places to try to be at the top in domestic and global cricket”. He hopes to reach that summit in no more than three to five years.

They talk about the "Surrey Swagger" being a thing of the past and yet in the same sentence talk about becoming "the team of the decade". No mention of just trying to get back to Div One and perhaps win a trophy first. In the next sentence the world is hearing about putting people in significant places "to be at the top in domestic and global cricket".

Perhaps they ought to think about hiring someone to give them some advice about how to handle their profile.
Surrey just don't seem to get it.

From 2014 I have doubts that being a Sussex fan will continue to be the best sporting pleasure on the planet.

yep.

life member - you're stuck with me!

That report says RHB has got an "intelligent brain". Has he? hmm

Adams is starting to sound like some crazed megalomaniac from a Bond film, go quietly about your business instead of making all of these grand statements - you won't look such a tit when it all goes wrong then!

Adams won't be there if they aren't at the top in 3 years time. Surely after their antics of late they should be aiming to be champions in 2011.

The Kookaburra Man

Re: Rory Hamilton-Brown offered Surrey captaincy?

The Telegraph article also seems to be gently warning everyone that Ramps isn't likely to be too excited about being captained by a 22 year old. Watch this space.

From 2014 I have doubts that being a Sussex fan will continue to be the best sporting pleasure on the planet.

Re: Rory Hamilton-Brown offered Surrey captaincy?

I wonder what Mushy would make of all this. His humility had a profound effect on everyone around him, and it is sad that the man who depended on him the most has forgotten all the little master taught him. When he left Sussex, he left the Sussex way.

Re: Rory Hamilton-Brown offered Surrey captaincy?

Headline - Surrey's Rory Hamilton-Brown tipped as future England captain by Chris Adams - Nice one Adams, deflect the pressure away from the young lad and soak a bit up yourself...  roll

Their master plan - great Oasis song but I dread to think what the Slurrey equivalent is...  roll

That vision - I wonder if Stewey, Thorpey and Butch(y?) share the same one or if their's goes as far as the end of next Sept...  roll

"I have told England to think outside the box. They will be thinking about Rory the player but I am saying to them, what about Rory the player and Rory the leader. They are going to get two for the price of one. He is a special person. For 22 he comes across exceedingly well and people follow him." - Again superbly not putting any pressure on Rory...  roll

Ramprakash is on tour with Strictly Come Dancing and has not yet met up with his new captain... - you wait til those twirlers come on, they'll soon have some common ground, does Len Goodman get down the Hoval at all?!?  wink

"Ramps is by his own admission a traditionalist," - Absolute nightmare then...  roll

Adams said. "He told me if he was picking a captain he would pick someone who has played more cricket and had more experience, but he said he will support Rory 100 per cent. He has a big role to play in being an on-field and off-field resource for Rory. He is someone Rory will need and it will be a key relationship." - At least he sounds like he's really behind the new skipper...  roll

Meanwhile, Surrey's batting coach, the former England player Graham Thorpe, has been appointed to a similar position with the England Lions for next month's tour to the United Arab Emirates. - We used to have a lad that was probably good enough to have got himself into that one day/t20 Lions squad, shame he may of been distracted when he was away training with the Lions before Chrimbo...  roll

by Chris Adams, the man who has gambled on the appointment of a player with only eight first-class matches to his name. - and both of their career's...  roll

I think there is a possibility I may still be struggling to buy into the vision??

So much spin, is Mushy involved wink

Who is that man talking to Schlidd ?

Re: Rory Hamilton-Brown offered Surrey captaincy?

The more drivel I here from adams the more rediculous this whole incident has become. Adams will destroy RHB and ruin his career.

More spin than Mushy,Murali and Adolph combined. Perhaps he could become a politician when surrey sack him!

I still think it's sad though it seems that Surrey can just break the rules and nothing is going to happen to them
