Theres only one MURRAY GOODWIN !!!!

Re: Awards night Friday 24th September

... in that case could one of you phone the ticket office when youre ready to book and ask them to set up a messageboard table - then when others are ready they can ask to go on same table

Re: Awards night Friday 24th September

Re: Awards night Friday 24th September

Good afternoon all.

I have reserved a table of 10 for the Message Boarders with James at corporate sales at the club. What he needs is names and payment!

James tells me 100 out of a total of 180 tickets have been sold so far, so I guess we could get a second table if required.

Can I have names of who will be going by the end of the week please.

It seems we have so far:

Sweatysock
AEWP
Nick & Gerald (Reigate Shark)
Big D
Leigh (Xian44)
Me (David of Reading)

This come to 7 so far.

Re: Awards night Friday 24th September

Good afternoon all.

As requested/suggested by Sweaty we have a MessageBoard table at the Awards night. To get on the table please ring James at the club on his direct line (01273 827126) to arrange to get your tickets. Please ask for the Messageboard table. I have purchased my ticket and will be on the table, I dont fancy being Billy No Mates.

If you have already purchased your tickets and want to be on the table I suggest you ring James, so he can sort it out.

It was a great night last year so I expect it will be great this year as well.

Re: Awards night Friday 24th September

Unfortunately I'll be unable to make it as I'll be in Australia. You might care to remember that Slid doesn't use the internet so someone may need to send him an invitation by text. I believe he's quite keen to join you.
If your table is full perhaps the club could fit him in on the players table.

From 2014 I have doubts that being a Sussex fan will continue to be the best sporting pleasure on the planet.

Re: Awards night Friday 24th September

would love to join you but find myself in a small town in germany on the said evening- have fun!

we plough and sow and reap and mow

Re: Awards night Friday 24th September

i believe there is now only one space left on the messageboard table and the whole event is a sell-out so good luck!

Re: Awards night Friday 24th September

Good afternoon all.

Just had a phone call from James at the club. Our table is now full; we have 11 who have booked and paid for their tickets.

It will be a great evening.

Re: Awards night Friday 24th September

Just a quick update, for those who dont already know there is restricted access to the ground.

We can not access the Boundary Rooms from the main entrance. I am told we will have to access via the North East Gate.

See you tomorrow.

Re: Awards night Friday 24th September

Award night! shouldn't take long.  roll

Re: Awards night Friday 24th September

can we park in the ground?

life member - you're stuck with me!

Re: Awards night Friday 24th September

a superb evening: very well organised from ian waring and steward mick gunn organising things outside to ceo brooksy meeting and greeting and smiling at everyone, leading to a very jovial atmosphere throughout.

this was my first visit to the new boundary room which far exceeded all my expectations. quality and a very versatile space. brilliant lighting.    10/10!!!

good service and food (and yes, a veggie option organised!!! pheeew) and (as ever) a well constructed and presented awards evening. our resident mc gets better and better and is top class! ditto robbo, rmj and all those who managed to find the podium!

we were guests of my former boss at capital radio, tony hale and his wife mary, and we were delighted to be sitting with the parents of masters beer and brown! very good company.

others will, i am sure, report on the awards.

congratulations to sccc - a great evening!

Yes it would be good to hear who won what and what players were there.

Also did Sweaty do another Del Boy impression whilst talking to one of the players this year?  smile

Re: Awards night Friday 24th September

It was indeed a very good evening which has been well reported by Good Old Mike By The Sea. The place was packed, the food was excellent and the hospitality superb. Well done to all especially Brooksy and Kevin who were clucking around like attentive Mother Hens all night long. Very good!!

Sweaty was very well behaved this year, which made for a welcome change and it was nice to have some female company on the table even though they were a bit obsessed by Nashy for my taste.

The players were very well represented as ever though absentees included Yards (sick), Matt, Monty and Wrighty ( on the England boot camp), Muzz and Stan whose already gone to Australia. It was very good to see Chad there in a very pukkha pair of Elvis shoes and Thorners too.

The awards as I recall them went as follows:

Fielder of The Year - Joe Gatting
Young Player of The Year - Ben Brown
Most Improved Player - Lewis Hatchett
Team Man of The Year - Colin Bowley
Chairmans Award - Ambi and Tucker
Champagne Moment of The Year - 4 100s in an innings at Horsham
Performance of The Year - Nashy v Leicestershire
Agony to Ecstasy Award - Ambi v KP
Player of The Year - Corey who had made a nice vid which was played and Hoddy accepted the award on his behalf

Anybody who didnt go should have done. It was a very good night and there were some great moments with James and Robin towards the end. Well done everybody concerned and my special thanks to DavidofReading for his kindness in getting me home.

Re: Awards night Friday 24th September

yes a great evening - food was good, venue excellent and a well-organised event. Particularly enjoyed the tributes to RMJ & James

Bit worse for wear today - a schoolboy error arranging to play squash this morning!

Re: Awards night Friday 24th September

Thanks for the reportrs . sorry to show my ignorance but who is Colin Bowley?

Re: Awards night Friday 24th September

He looks after the indoor school and changing rooms Steve.

Thought the night was really good, food and service was good too. All of the awards went to the right people I think. There was a great section with Robbo talking to Tucker and Ambi for about ten minutes and both made good speeches, James's in particular.

I'd definitely recommend going, good value and a nice way to round off and celebrate a good season.

Re: Awards night Friday 24th September

It was a special evening done the Sussex way and shared by the whole family: players and coaches, admin staff and stewards, families and friends, sponsors and fans alike - all equals.

A lovely meal was led by Ed giving a Gaelic blessing for the Grace. Ollie compered the Heads and Tails game like a hapless professor all spikey hair and bits of paper everywhere. We cheered the footage of the achievements of our heroes and laughed at the less heralded ones e.g. Jimmy Anyon drinking himself to a standstill within 2 hours of the last Hove game before it had even got dark, Monty winning the Asian Keepy Uppy Challenge with a club record 25, Flora Martin-Jenkins upstaging her husband in The Wisden Cricketer with her 'Wag of the Month'. We also learned that RMJ is coming to terms with getting up before 8.30 in the morning and has so far failed to get his framed green trousers home as they are too big for his car.

After wonderful tributes to RMJ my Lord and James, it was James himself who had the last word and, like his in-swinging yorker, absolutely nailed it. He spoke about the unique spirit that binds the Sussex family, has brought unprecedented success and continues to confound outsiders. After seeing Somerset at the PCA awards he says "they just don't get it". With it, he says, Sussex will always punch above their weight and win more trophies.

Amen to that, James.
