Topic: Collymore

Can anyone please tell me if he will be with us next season?

Re: Collymore

Not yet they cant.Corey is on a one year contract only which is not renewed until late when Kolpak rules availability etc is known.

Re: Collymore

Corey can play next season under Kolpak rules.

but that wasnt the question was it? The answer is I dont know ,as it is for many of our out of contract players.

Hopefully we will know soon after the end of the season

Re: Collymore

TC I was only responding to you saying about kolpak rules. He can come back next year under Kolpak .

His contract is up so we will wait and see.

Re: Collymore

Under current Kolpak and work permit rules yes,but remember they have a cost too in terms of the ECB subsidy and that is increasing each year I believe.Corey is always going to be a last minute decision for one year as it has always been. But he has said he would like to be back and Robbo has said he would like to have him (and Sidey and Amjad Khan and quite a few others the budget cant run to)

Re: Collymore

As always should be an interesting winter re players.

Re: Collymore

colly has looked very good this season.  maybe a yard quicker than last campaign?

with rmj departed he is our mr reliable.

obviously the first division is much tougher but his confidence now seems sky high.

the only obvious negative is that he doen't play any one dayers so maybe not great value for money?

Re: Collymore

From what I've heard from several different sources around the ground this is what I percive to be the situation:
Middlesex have offered Corey a 2 year deal with more money than he's on currently, however he is waiting us to make our mind up and would accept a one year contract with us.
This may be completley wrong but this seems to be what is circulating around.

Re: Collymore

Better to have a fit bowler for the cc games rather than trying to squeeze more out of him in the one day stuff too.

Re: Collymore

yes i quite like having 4 day specialists and one-day specialists (bowlers i mean), helps to get over the fixture overload

Re: Collymore

.... and Corey was taking a reasonable amount of wickets in the first division as well

Re: Collymore

given the above comments, let's hope he stays?   i certainly do.

if the kent lad joins us he is a bit quicker and would be our strike bowler (with yasir ?) but probably not the quality long-spell stock bowler we also need.   i see colly as a robbo type?  a very important part of any bowling unit.

i haven't seen enough of anyon to make a judgement.

Re: Collymore

The heart says RM-J is the player of the season, but the head says Collymore.

A very good season four day season from Stan. Here's to seeing him again in 2011.

Now we can confirm Collymore has joined Middlesex on a two year deal because his wife is studying in London. This had been on the cards for some time and explains why Robbo was after two seamers.

Good luck Corey and thanks for everything.

Re: Collymore

Yeah, wouldn't go away this one would it...

Good luck to Corey, shame but I did wonder if he would have been as potent in div1.

Makes recruitment even more important now.

Re: Collymore

Corey has always given us everything and will be missed. Good luck at Middlesex!

Re: Collymore

Yes, I wasn't expecting that.  He's become very much a fixture in the CC side and such a model of consistency.  We are certainly going to miss him, but I'm sure we all wish him well with Middlesex, although hopefully we will not be facing him.

Re: Collymore

A great season for Collymore but all in all this is good news, in my anti-Kolpak opinion.  I just hope we don't sign another one.

Good luck to the guy, he'll do well at Middlesex.

Re: Collymore

Yeah, thanks to Corey for all his hardwork for SCCC.

It creates a further opportunity for one of our young bowlers to step up.

Murray Goodwin, Caught Xian44, Bowled The Real AB.

Re: Collymore

Thank you Corey for everything you have done, and especially this season, helping us bounce straight back into the 1st division

Re: Collymore

The cynic in me says that moving to Middlesex has little to do with his family but the fact he'll continue playing Division 2 cricket next season.

I think most agree that his tight and accurate style of bowling is ideally suited for LV2, where the gulf in standard of batting is quite marked.

Why stay with Sussex, where he may struggle next season in LV1; get tonked for a lot more runs; and gain less wickets.

Corrie has been a primary reason for Sussex's immediate return to the top tier. So, we have much to thank him for. But I can fully understand his reasons for moving.  wink

"Now the stumps have asked for pads!"
(Aussie radio commentator Kerry O'Keeffe as Rahul Dravid, bowled six times in seven innings during the present series, walks out to bat at the Adelaide Oval)

The cynic in you of course has the wrong end of the stick.Corey wanted to stay with Sussex but they would only offer him one year .Middx offered him two years and better terms,so he had little choice.
The story about family is to cover Sussex who were unwilling to match Middx . So at 33 what choice does Corey have.

This was highly predictable and no surprise and nothing to do with division.Kolpak players have additional costs in terms of subsidy, travel etc and Corey ,although damned good still, could only play 4 day cricket because of Dodgy knees etc. Hence from early Sussex were interested in all locally available seamers because they were looking to replace Corey as soon as possible.

This is the harsh reality and why so many players are available...At least Sussex and Corey have reached an amicable parting with a joint press statement. At some counties Corey would read in the press that he had been released(like Shah). I am hoping this means Robbo has the two local seamers he wanted..Insh Allah.

I think you have it spot on  and is a result of age and additional Kolpak costs.Makes room to sign Adkin and Hatchett, keep Liddle and perhaps sign two other seamers as we have Kirtley Lewry Rmj, Keegan and corey gone.

Our most experienced seamer, non overseas is now Jimmy Anyon (gulp)

Re: Collymore

thanks cory and very good-luck. shame.

funny that whenever a player moves on the player and / or the club is quick to say it is for non-cricketing and / or non-financial reasons.

london is fifty minutes on the train from hove not three island flights away!

doh.
