Re: KP & Hampshire

I've seen both KPs games for Surrey this week and whilst Butcher may have been right on Tuesday before KP had played for Surrey, he must be completely wrong now. What he has written just smacks of a lethal combination of petty jealousy and sour grapes. The fact is that the crowds love KP and came out in massive numbers both today and on Wednesday to see him play. Today he also batted magnificently. There is not a cricket club worthy of the name that should not welcome him with open arms. I'm certain that Mr Sheldon will ensure, by whatever means, that petty jealousies do not prevail over cricketing and commercial commonsense.

Of course, should Surrey get it wrong like they do with most things, I'm sure Brooksy and Robbo would be the first in the queue with the Victoria to Hove train times and the phone number of Brightons finest cabbie.

Re: KP & Hampshire

Can you get Gatwick Express down to Brighton?  That would make the journey pretty quick.  But after his hundred yesterday, I'd be amazed if Surrey didn't offer him some sort of deal.  Even if it's just a rolling contract whilst he is centrally contracted for England.  They won't pay him anything and get one of the world's greatest batsmen every now and then.  I've seen it read that it gets in the way of Roy's progress but surely he could have played instead of Stewart Walters or someone else if they really wanted him in the team.

Re: KP & Hampshire

You wouldn't say that if you heard the four letter expletives coming from the players balcony yesterday after wkt keeper Wlson returned after KP ran him out.

Conspiracy theory for S&F, did Davies only get the keeping job for England if Surrey took KP on loan, what with Surrey and England both being sponsered by Brit.

Who is that man talking to Schlidd ?

KP lives in Chelsea and so would still have the awkward journey across London. What would be the point of moving from Hampshire? However, like you I would be extremely surprised if Surrey didn't offer him a contract after yesterday's innings. Pietersen isn't keeping Roy, Lancefield or Ansari out of the Surrey team. If I was a Surrey fan I would much rather see Roy, Lancefield and Ansari in the Surrey team than Walters or Afzaal.

Re: KP & Hampshire

hc,

Flower and the ECB placed considerable pressure on Surrey to take on Pietersen, as the 'Mail Online' wrote, "His surprise move to Surrey was completed only after ECB officials applied pressure to Surrey during several days of talks.

'It's just a loan,' said former Surrey captain Mark Butcher. 'Surrey are very keen to get it out there that the ECB asked them to take Pietersen and that they didn't instigate the move. They are essentially doing the ECB a favour, so where that leaves KP when he looks for a county next year I don't know.' Flower is believed to have used his friendship with Angus Mackay, Surrey's director of cricket and a former Zimbabwe team-mate..."

So, yes, England selecting Davies may have been a sweetener. It also creates a space for KP. I still believe Pietersen joining Surrey for next season is a disaster waiting to happen. Griz and KP getting on? No way! Sussex and Robbo is a far better match.

"Now the stumps have asked for pads!"
(Aussie radio commentator Kerry O'Keeffe as Rahul Dravid, bowled six times in seven innings during the present series, walks out to bat at the Adelaide Oval)

A foul-mouthed Irishman?  Surely not  wink  I could think of a certain occasion this season live on telly where a certain captain of a county didn't even wait until his back in the changing room to say some choice words.

Well free apart from the money he gets from his central contract.

Re: KP & Hampshire

So, KP's now going home to get in a couple of games....

Re: KP & Hampshire

Isn't Natal a bit of a long commute from Chelsea?  big_smile
