We can now take it we ARE Div 2 title winners. From the first match onwards we were clearly the best side in the Division and should not have been outside Div 1 anyway. It has been a team effort, well led by Yardy with some highly promising players coming through reflecting the depth of Sussex cricket, its coaching and its ethos. This has been all very pleasing and many congratulations to all involved. It is an honour to be a fan of such a fine club that continues to punch so effectively above its weight.  Many, many congratulations.

I agree with every word. We won div 2 in 2001 so when it is confirmed tomorrow I make that a magic 10 trophies in 10 years. I think Sussex did what they needed to get out of the division and often it was described as men against boys. It will be great to get amongst the best clubs again which will bring out the best in our players.

I plan to look into the Oval tomorrow to watch Glam draw with Surrey and then celebrate. Any other Sx supporters around the area?

Re: Sussex v Northants Hove 7 - 10 September

Given the weather prognostiactions at the weekend (and indeed on Tuesday) I fully expected this match to be a rain ruined draw. Instead I was able to spend a splendid late summer day in the deckchairs watching  a thoroughly professional performance from the boys. Once we got rid of Mr Sales, it was, to coin a phrase, never in doubt. I thought at one stage that they might linger until tea, and that we might even have to bat again, but there was a very good mopping up of the tail. Just as well, as there was some dodgy weather around by 3.30.

The taffies are sinking deeper and deeper into the mire, so I think Brooksy can send out for another bottle of silver polish.

Re: Sussex v Northants Hove 7 - 10 September

Glamorgan have closed at 273-9.

Ironically the last couple of wickets putting on 70 (so far) may make it harder for them to win.  I expected Slurrey to lead by about 140 and add a quick 180/200 to set Glamorgan 300/320 to win in about 80 overs.  Now any target is going to be below 250 in about 65 if Glamorgan are not to shut up shop, but would RHB risk the 3 points which could ensure that they finish above Derbyshire at the bottom?

Re: Sussex v Northants Hove 7 - 10 September

Glam will go for 300 and the draw . Even if they win we will only need a max 5 points at Worcs .

A very easy win against a team who imo were no better than Derby . And Derby before Horsham had  team problems ie Rogers, Wagg and Smith are leaving them .

Hot sunshine today reminded some of us of  that long final day in 2007 and of course the greatest day in the history of cricket ie that sunny magical day back in 2003 .

The lack of CC cricket at home between late May and mid August except 3 days at Arundel (and a bad ankle made that 2 days for me) made this the first time in 49 years that my love of this game start to fade . Thankfully I am lucky to live in a county that plays at Horsham and Arundel and less than hour at Horsham with the company of my mates restored the sheer magic of this strange beautiful game.

Anyway thats 11 trophies in 12 years and congratulations to Robbo and the team .A fine bunch of players and what a great friendly club this is .

And the highlight of the season is yet to come 4 days with a bunch of great mates in Worcester where my love of the game first started.

Re: Sussex v Northants Hove 7 - 10 September

Another great performance and a return to Div One at the first attempt. Also two B+ performances in the Pro40 and T20 competitions. Well done to the whole squad for a wonderful, disciplined effort.

An enjoyable today and a good celebration in The Cricketers garden after the game by about 20 of us but no sign of anyone from the club making appearance which was a bit disappointing. I suspect there may well have been a private function elsewhere for Brian the gateman and one of the stewards who is retiring. It was a shame not to have a chance to say well done to anyone, but we had a drink and toasted our success anyway.

From 2014 I have doubts that being a Sussex fan will continue to be the best sporting pleasure on the planet.

Re: Sussex v Northants Hove 7 - 10 September

I would imagine the club hierarchy were clucking around the VIP of the day - Giles Clarke. He spent today at Hove as part of his late season tour of the counties.

I hope Brooksy and May aired their views on the Championship and T20 fixtures for next year. As Clarke is a Somerset man, he may be more open to keeping the 16 T20 games.

It would have been interesting eavesdropping on the conversation.

Re: Sussex v Northants Hove 7 - 10 September

Watching on Cricinfo at work I realised pretty quickly I HAD to be at Hove.  Saw the last 5 wickets but it still felt a bit flat. When Fiorentina went up a few years ago the fans laid out a banner saying 'Don't Expect Us To Celebrate'. as if they never should have got relegated in the first place.

I dunno.. Number one objective at the start of the season was to get promoted but feel we have still under-achieved somehow. Maybe being a bit greedy but I hope we can build on this and make a proper challenge for the championship.

Singing in the Cricketers garden was memorable and can think of few better ways to spend a Thursday afternoon.  Big Darren is a linguistic genius.

Its been fun chaps and I suppose I can't really complain. its not like I live in Kent or Surrey!

I think that Glamorgan were always going to go for the draw once Surrey got 390 and if not then, certainly when they were 2 down cheaply in reply. They had more important things to think about than chasing an unlikely 1st place.

Even now there is an outside chance Worcs could win and in their position, they may as well go for some fast runs with their last three wickets and try to set Middx around 170 if they can.

The 3 points for the draw for Glam may be the difference between having to win or just get a decent draw in the last match.

Re: Sussex v Northants Hove 7 - 10 September

With Worcs beating Mddx and Sry/Glam heading fro a draw Worcs will be really motivated to try and win aginst us and pip Glam so should be a good contest if the weather holds. Quite amazing if Worcs manage to make it to the first Div after losing so many players last season. Good for them.
