Re: Other county games (not Sussex) - 2010 season

unlike other messageboarders i dont mind Somerset and it must be a horrible feeling to be second in all 3 competitions but always thought competing on all fronts would be too much
but well done Warwickshire who have turned round their season in spectacular fashion

Doesn't it put in perspective just how big an achievement it was that we have won two trophies twice. We had a bad day at the office after losing the toss at Lords in the FP final but came straight back and nailed the T20. Bounce- back-ability is what makes champions.

Yes. It most certainly does.

Well done to the Bears though.

Re: Other county games (not Sussex) - 2010 season

To Lords for an unplanned final match of the season. Having been to a couple of finals with Sussex where the place was a heaving mass of humanity, it was disappointing to find that the lower Edrich, lower Compton and entire Tavern stands were closed off and the stands that were in use were by no means full. All of this, of course, is due to the geniuses of the ECB holding the final two weeks after the last group matches and just one week after the semis. No doubt Giles will be claiming that there is no interest in the longer form of the one day game and introducing more 20/20 roll

Zumerset were bowled out for 199 in 39 overs with most of the runs coming from Bedwetter, Compton and Hildreth. There was a monumental collapse from 176/3, mainly due to Tahir's second spell (interestingly, PC Plod, he bowled 3 wides in his final over hmm ). The Bears reply was built around an excellent 107 from Bell, supported by 30 from Troughton - no one else got above 19). The weak link in Zumerset's bowling was Turner, who I imagine played because De Bryun had been allowed to go to the Champions Trophy, and Bell clattered him for 20 in his seventh over, after which the outcome was "never in doubt".

The cider boys are nothing if not consistent.

I also think it was something to do with the ECB arranging this game as a day/night match when the last train to Taunton was at 8.45pm.

Re: Other county games (not Sussex) - 2010 season

Neither was it helped by having an ODI at the Oval on Friday and another at Lords on Sunday, leaving the uncommitted with options.

Re: Other county games (not Sussex) - 2010 season

yes ... terrible planning ... holding the semi final only a week before the final is a major mistake ... part of the fun to any big final is the build up ... commercially for the clubs it´s a chance wasted too ... and most importantly we wouldnt have had much time to get a songbook together (let alone printed) with this sort of scheduling?

we plough and sow and reap and mow

Re: Other county games (not Sussex) - 2010 season

i have to admit i was cheering for warwicks yesterday too, i get a strange pleasure out of somerset coming close and then losing three times in one season.
however, my dislike i think comes from justin langer's pre match interview on sky before the T20 final last year when he arrogantly reminded mike yardy that sussex had already lost one final (v. hants) a couple of weeks back.
so for me, seeing them lose yesterday wasn't a bad saturday afternoons entertainment  wink
i do feel for some of their fans though, if sussex had done this i would be inconsolable.

The man with the midas touch.
