To Lords for an unplanned final match of the season. Having been to a couple of finals with Sussex where the place was a heaving mass of humanity, it was disappointing to find that the lower Edrich, lower Compton and entire Tavern stands were closed off and the stands that were in use were by no means full. All of this, of course, is due to the geniuses of the ECB holding the final two weeks after the last group matches and just one week after the semis. No doubt Giles will be claiming that there is no interest in the longer form of the one day game and introducing more 20/20
Zumerset were bowled out for 199 in 39 overs with most of the runs coming from Bedwetter, Compton and Hildreth. There was a monumental collapse from 176/3, mainly due to Tahir's second spell (interestingly, PC Plod, he bowled 3 wides in his final over
). The Bears reply was built around an excellent 107 from Bell, supported by 30 from Troughton - no one else got above 19). The weak link in Zumerset's bowling was Turner, who I imagine played because De Bryun had been allowed to go to the Champions Trophy, and Bell clattered him for 20 in his seventh over, after which the outcome was "never in doubt".
The cider boys are nothing if not consistent.
