Re: Owais Shah

Or has he opted for 2nd Div bowling wink

Who is that man talking to Schlidd ?

Re: Owais Shah

"I believe that, at 32, I'm at my peak as a cricketer and still have an enormous amount to offer in all forms of the game."

Essex coach Paul Grayson said: "Owais is the sort of high-quality batsman that we have lacked since Ronnie Irani and Andy Flower retired.

"He's probably one of the top three batsmen not currently playing international cricket alongside Mark Ramprakash and Marcus Trescothick.

"It's a fresh challenge having been with one club for so long. Hopefully we can help him get his England place back which is what he tells us he wants."

All of which sounds very positive and I do believe Sussex wrere seriously keen. Not many batsmen around with a better career record.Which begs the qustion...why did Middx sack him ?

Re: Owais Shah

those in the know may know but i am not even certain if we went for him? you seem to think we did tc?

life member - you're stuck with me!

Re: Owais Shah

ACE!  That's not me shouting out the most over-hyped nickname given to a man but my reaction to what is hopefully the end of the Owais 'Ace' Shah thread.

P.S.  He definitely doesn't fancy division one cricket.

Re: Owais Shah

MBTS and RF- pay attention class ...you are not answering the question.Whether Sussex really were keen and whether he prefers div 2 is not relevant to todays question. Why would Middlesex sack him without even telling him before the press and without the song and dance about salary?Did they just assume he wouldnt take a cut and he wasnt worth it.Could he be on more than Morgan?

Re: Owais Shah

I don't know the answer, is why I didn't answer it TC.  It's probably true that he wouldn't take a cut and that he was on a big whack though, so that sounds possible enough to me.  Maybe they just don't like him anymore.

I was just celebrating the fact that we ain't signing him - good player that he is, that ain't everything.

Re: Owais Shah

Well seems you are all happy as Shah was not perfect. Mike thinks we are going to land Rob Key, RFawden thinks Wells will do the job and Sharkey reckons the answer is Fynn Hudson -Prentice or Harry Finch.

I think I will have faith in Robbo and hope he gets me tickets for my personal Jollies next year...I am hoping Arundel and Trent Bridge.

Re: Owais Shah

TC - Fynn Hudson-Prentince and Harry Finch will be in contention for the Academy. Brown, Wells, Gatting and Machan have the talent and ability to fill any voids created by call-ups.

Excellent we don't need Joyce, Wright, Prior or Yardy then.

Fynn Hudson-Prentice,  14 ,but who scored 596 runs @ 54 with three centuries or 15 year old Harry Finch who scored 423 runs @ 30 and was a regular for Hastings and finished 15th top run scorer in the Sussex Premier League.

Re: Owais Shah

On what thread was it on TC? ACADEMY SQUAD 2011 - says it all really!

Re: Owais Shah

Matt Pryor of SPIN did a feature on Shah last month. According to this.Middlesex let him go to clear the decks - he was the last player left that Fraser had played with, hadnt made many runs in the last year of his contract and, at nearly 150k, earned 20% more than anyone else. They have a group of young players and wanted someone at Shah's level to provide guidance to them - but Fraser sees him as tactically naive and divisive - ie a liabiity rather than a leader. Fraser saw Rogers as cheaper and a better influence while Shah was apparently not buying into everything Fraser wanted to do.

Above paints a bad picture of Shah but Fraser hasnt been a huge success himself so the future will tell if he is right.

Re: Owais Shah

Well I'll bet anyone five bucks he is right.  'Ace' is an over paid individual and Fraser has made a good move, for me.  Rogers is ten times better, from evey (every) aspect.

Re: Owais Shah

I often use the expression "high-maintenance" players  - Shah seems to be one of them and you cant afford too many in any squad - im too bashful to say who i think are the high maintenance players are in our current squad!

Re: Owais Shah

When a club makes Ed Smith captain and loses players like Ramps, Joyce, Shah and Dalyrymple, and takes on people like Scott Newman, you have to wonder about the club as well as the players

Thanks Kim for the straight answer...dont think we could afford anything like that if Monty and Amjad are on less than 100.

Re: Owais Shah

Monty ain't on less than 100!   tongue

Hardly a ringing endorsement!

Re: Owais Shah

Is Frazer tricky, then?

Re: Owais Shah

Apologies - but an eazy spelling mistake to make

I thought it waas well documented that Monty was supposed to get 125 from Northants as a result of his England contract. They mutually offered his release. He was offered less than 100 by Sussex and Northants agreed to a top up payment. Who dont believe dont believe.

I guess that until all salaries are published we can continue to believe whatever we want. I note that Robbo has commented that a lot of salaries are exaggerated and Sidey was on less than 150. Compared to Wayne Rooney et Al Sussex cricketers are not paid top dollar and its still a tough business if you dont get IPL big money. An Ipl contract for three weeks  can be worth 10 times the annual salary of a decent division 1 professional (like Yardy or Wright)

Re: Owais Shah

Great job though ain't it?  I'd do it for nowt.  That wages comment was just a gag, don't wanna go through all that again - don't know what he's on HC.
