Re: Yasir Arafat

I guess the club would have liked to sign Rana for the first half of the season and Yasir for the second half, perhaps combining duties for the T20.  Rana is such a wholehearted cricketer that he tends to get an injury or struggle physically at some point in the season.  Yasir doesn't appear to ever be getting back to his top championship performances circa 2006.

Re: Yasir Arafat

There can be no doubt that in 2006 Yas performed above anything we hoped for, so he will always have a place in our hearts. Also, in 2009 he performed well in the shorter formats (as did everyone) and 2010 did a good job in Div 2 of the CC.

However, since 2007 he hasn't exactly been a matchwinner with the ball in England, with only four 5fers (two of those in Div 2) and completely misfired in the 2009 CC, the second time he had been part of a relegation side.

It is understandable that Robbo would want to check the availability of others, whilst not closing the door on Yas. In fact, it would be neglect if the manager of a professional sports team didn't look for better than he already had. '09 taught us that bowling was the key to avoiding relegation, not that we didn't know it, and Rana gives more there whilst losing not too much with the bat.

Very correct...Robbo is from yorkshire and far from sentimental when selecting players or teams.I feel sure he was disappointed with Yasirs bowling in 2010 and wanted to examine alternatives.I think he also figured out that Rana runs out of steam by mid summer.Hence his plan to get two overseas seamers to share.
