Re: Pro 40 draw

ours is a very difficult group isnt it, with Somerset, Worcs and Lanky in it

Re: Pro 40 draw

I also see you have to be top of group or best second place to get to semi-final as there is no quarter-final, which will lead to a load of dead games as before (will they ever learn????)

Re: Pro 40 draw

unbelievable. A marketing nightmare. The only sane conclusion you can reach is that the ECB wants to kill off the counties

Re: Pro 40 draw

theres even a competition to name the 'ECB recreational XI'.

Giles Clarke's No-hopers maybe ?

Re: Pro 40 draw

No quarter finals why are the ECB such complete idiots? As sweaty says there will be ahuge amount of dead matches which won't attract the crowds.

Really am fed up with the way the ECB re running the game it is high time that some ousted Clarke who couldn't organise a p*** up in a brewery.  mad

Re: Pro 40 draw

I would have gone for 4 groups of five with the top two going through to the quarter-final, and dispensing with the Village cricket team

Re: Pro 40 draw

So when we play the 'ECB recreational XI' will we have to play them on a park covered in Dog mess while kids zoom across the pitch on bikes?

Re: Pro 40 draw

You really have to try hard to be this stupid.Too much cricket so add a few teams ,play home and away and have no Quarter finals .Total stupidity.

If you took two average joes like say Paperboy and sweaty they would have had 4 groups of 5 (two home ,two away games) with top two going to quarter finals...less games ,less dead games, some knockout fun. Then you could play a 50 over knockout including Scotland and Raratonga and a Lords final. In all less games and more interest
Why do the average joes know more than ECB.

Triple Century

Re: Pro 40 draw

Ive decided to call the ECB Recreational x1 "the Village People"

The infinite monkey theorem states that a monkey hitting keys at random on a typewriter keyboard for an infinite amount of time will type the complete works of Shakespeare.

The infinite Giles Clarke theorem states that Giles Clarke hitting keys at random on a typewriter keyboard for an infinite amount of time will never type the complete works of Shakespeare, but will formulate an infinite number of Pro 40 competition formats none of which will have quarter finals.

Re: Pro 40 draw

Silly question, but why are Scotland and the Netherlands in it, but not Ireland?

Re: Pro 40 draw

Ireland pulled out - said they wanted to concentrate on international games

Re: Pro 40 draw

very disappointed that we haven't got quarter-finals. it just means two thirds of the counties will have very little to play for come the halfway stage.
i'm intrigued to know how the fixtures are going to pan out given the final of this competition is mid september.

There must have been 22 Average Joes on this messageboard previously saying:

40 over cricket is more family friendly and convenient to watch (after deciding to scrap it, the ECB eventually re-instated it).

Two Twenty/20 competitions in a domestic season was excessive (the ECB eventually scrapped plans for the introduction of the second competition).

No quarter-finals in the Twenty/20 competition created too many dead matches (the ECB eventually introduced quarter-finals)

No semi-finals for the original 50 over C&G/FPT competition created too many dead rubbers (the ECB eventually introduced semi-finals)

And now........no quarter-finals for the new 40 over competition.

If brains were dynamite the ECB executives wouldn't have enough between them to blow up a paper bag.
Expect them to realise their error about this time next year and announce the introduction of quarter-finals for the 2011 season.  roll

Re: Pro 40 draw

and why not a straight knock out competition?

The World is flat but Mushy sparkles

Re: Pro 40 draw

Our first advantage of the new season. We're two points clear of the Taffies already.

Glamorgan suffer two point penalty

The three group winners will qualify for the semi-finals along with the best second-placed team.

Group A: ECB Recreational XI, Glamorgan, Lancashire, Somerset, Surrey, Sussex, Worcestershire.
Group B: Derbyshire, Essex, Gloucestershire, Holland, Middlesex, Northamptonshire, Yorkshire.
Group C: Durham, Hampshire, Kent, Leicestershire, Nottinghamshire, Scotland, Warwickshire

This is going to be a another brilliant season. cool

All together now.....
Good Old Sussex by the Sea, Good Old Sussex by the Sea, oh we're going up to win the cup for Sussex by the Sea!
