Taylor is trying to claim unfair dismissal which in a sporting environment maybe a lot harder to prove than in a normal work environment.

I see Chris Taylor has left Gloucestershire, but for where I wonder?

I don't think it is his decision to leave. I think the planning application being rejected has obviously influenced things but how come they could afford to re-sign Hamish Marshall and also sign Dan Housego from Middlesex but not their leading run scorer? Will he claim age discrimination as Taylor is 35 and Housego is 23. Surely a move to Leicestershire is on the cards for Taylor. They could do with signing a couple of experienced batsmen and Sarwan and Taylor would fit the bill perfectly.

Ard - He wasn't likely to be selected with Phil Hughes and Usman Khawaja likely to lose their CA and given the emergence of young batsmen like Kurtis Patterson and Nic Maddinson. As for replacing Strauss in four year's time I don't think so as he will be 36 and hasn't been the same player since he had surgery for a serious back injury late in 2008. A massive gamble by Yorkshire as his form since returning from injury hasn't been great.

Thornely needs to turn 30s and 40s into 50s and 100s if he wants to secure his future with another county.

How much longer must the England batting underperform before Flower makes changes?

At 32, Jaques has realised his opportunities with New South Wales would continue to dwindle with the rise of young batsmen like Nic Maddinson and Kurtis Patterson. And the potential shrinking of the Cricket Australia contract list could have meant Jaques was no certainty to win another state contract, with the possibility of several fringe Australian players returning to the state list.

300 lead should be more than enough for Pakistan. Ajmal and Rehman to clean up England.

Am I the only one completely lost by this post? how can getting correct umpiring deciswions be giving an advantage?

There is absolutely no doubt that lbw decisions for spinners are now being given out that were not being given out before. While India opt no to go for DRS their batsmen will continue to look better than they actually are and we will continue to have 500 playing 500 in India.

It has been a batsmen's girl for too long but has DRS now moved it too much in favour of the bowlers and in particular spinners?

Dave Warner would be my choice for Twenty20. Destructive batsman and good fielder.

There doesn't look too much wrong with the pitch now!

Is DRS having two much of an impact on the test match? Is it giving spinners from both sides too much of an advantage? The problem with having some sides opting for DRS and others not is that it is going to make averages meaningless as Indian batsmen will have higher averages because there is no DRS and Pakistan spinners will have low averages because of DRS. DRS will only really have an impact in the sub-continent where the bounce is low.

From a Sussex perspective if it means youngsters like Wells, Gatting, Machan, Brown, Beer, Adkin and Hatchett get more first team opportunities then I'm all for it.

Did Phil Jacques retire or was he not offered another contract at NSW? They have Watson, Warner, Hughes, Khawaja, Clarke, Katich, Maddinson, Rohrer, Smith and Henriques who can bat in the top 6 plus 18 year old left handed batsman Kurtis Patterson who scored 157 on debut.

Flower says he is not afraid to drop but the batsmen but then why everytime England lose because of the batsmen it is bowler and never a batsman who gets dropped?

Does anyone realistically think Flower is going to drop Strauss, Cook, Trott, Pietersen or Bell?

Why the comparison to KP or Bell? It is Morgan and Bopara that Taylor is competiting against.

If he gets the odd game for England, then Will Beer should prove a capable deputy Of course we may just play the extra seamer as could use Nash, Yardy or Wells

What happens we get on a pitch where the spinners are expected to come to the fore. Beer has to play.

Really, really poor and not the performance of a team that holds the no1 ranking in test cricket.

Seems like the Aussies are a bit better than we thought, the Indians not as good as we thought they were, the Pakistani's better than expected and we certainly aren't as good as we thought.

Morgan needs to get his head around batting in the longer game and work hard now, I'd bypass RavBop and stick James Taylor in at 6.

Agree with much of this especially with replacing Morgan with Taylor at 6.

Yeah well, you still ain't gonna pick two spinners on many occasions in England.  I hope he does take Swann's place, or every where starts turning square, then Beer will get a game at last.  We got Nash, Yardy and Wells as back-up to him, maybe  hmm

If we don't have Panesar and Beer gets injured we'd just take someone on loan, like Smith.  Anyway, all a bit doom and gloom - what if the Rapture happens tomorrow and we all die?  Then what you gonna do about our second spinner options  big_smile

I don't see Nash, Yardy or Wells as frontline spinners.

If they were both injured I would expect Sussex to loan someone like Tom Smith.

Minimal I'd say, unless conditions and pitches change dramatically in England this summer.  Panesar's the last man you'd want as 12th man, if 12th man's expected to come on now and then to field.

I didn't mean as fielder as they normally use youngsters from local county / MCC to do this.

What are the chances England naming 12 man squad with two spinners and Monty ending up carrying the drinks?

Are England batsmen going to undo the good work of Panesar? Why does Morgan continue to get selected? How much longer can England perserve with Pietersen who apart from 224 at Adelaide has done nothing in an England shirt since 2009?

A terrific performance from Monty especially to get out Misbah ul Haq and Younis Khan.

The only thing from a Sussex perspective is that with Ollie Rayner and Tom Smith no longer at the county, Josh Poysden at University and Jack Parsons having given up cricket the spin bowling cupboard doesn't look quite as fall as it once did with only Will Beer in reserve.
