Really not sure why you would send Brown and Vincent before Nash, who is used to a new ball

The loss of Murray and Wright may define our season....

Lancs defend low scores well...153 is too much I feel unless someone plays a blinder

Murray has a split webbing and may be out for a while

Seems a lot without,Prior,Wright, and probably muzza too

No Goodwin for Wednesday is a disaster

KE, you paint a picture of a misfiring attack but that's not been the case for much of the season. They've done well in a lot of games. Our biggest problem has been our batting, in particular with four down and all out being two close together, esp. first innings meaning we are 10-15 pts down on batting points for a start.

I also can't see how you think our squad is better than Somerset's. However, I agree we were outgunned twice by Warwicks who looked weaker 'on paper'. But I don't think those matches are cause for a massive attack on our side - I think they're doing pretty well given that we have been without our three England players including our captain for much of the season.

True.  Very rarely have the bowlers had any scoreboard pressure to work with, as I think that in itself can create an extra 2 wickets by having a more attacking field.  I think an attack of Anyon, Amjad, Rana and Monty can easily do the job if given a score of 350-400 to back them up, but we seem to want to dillute the batting and bowling by picking a 5th bowler thus making sub-300 scores regularly.

good point

IM- apologies WUM is some kind of internet slang for those who seek to wind up other readers (usually on football sites)-Wind Up Merchants.Often they are supporters of other teams being deliberately provocative.I hasten to add that without exception those who support other counties but frequent this board are perfect gentlemen. ( egSerchers, 19CC,Kim,Woodie and croweater).

I suppose we should respect others views even if we think they are talking absolute bollocks and even if its hard to take. neutral

I think the messageboard performs a useful function in disseminating information and opinions.I read it most days. The vast majority of posters are civil about players and other messageboarders most of the time. Unfortunately it is very easy to get upset by the perception of unfair criticism , but it is best to rise above it and ignore it.Easier said than done as we are all passionate about Sussex and are incensed by what can be perceived as gratuitous and ill-informed comment.
Dont let the WUM wind you up should be the motto.

Sharkey- have you seen much of Hatchett since he has returned from injury? He has had a good start to his career but I still feel both he and Adkin are not quite the finished article. I would tend to think Parnell,Barry,Liddle may all have a little more experience but I dont think any would let us down.Amjad (and I have only seen him on the radio) has certainly not had the success I had hoped for.

Without a seamer that can bat at 6 (RMJ,Wright,Rikki Clarke) we limit our options and I dont see us going in with two seamers, But I do want six batsmen plus Hodd (or Brown). And I would like Ollie to play. It really is a tough problem that Robbo has. I hope he gets lucky with his decisions.
As I said on the vincent thread I would prefer Lou to risking Gatting ,Brown , and Machan. Perhaps Gatting or Machan should stand down...Again a tough one.
I will better know the correct selection AFTER the match with the benefit of hindsight.
I am nervous because this is a very important game.

Good luck to you all.I had hoped to be there ,but unfortunately will have to be in Barbados. big_smile

Yes sharkey Wrighty is a worry...l am sure we all hope its not a freddy Flintoff type injury.

Parnell is supposed to be world clas but was rusty at Taunton...

I guess Robbo didnt give Vincent a full contract because he only wanted him as cover in an emergency.Vincent has been out of cricket a little while struggling with his own problems and I am pleased to see him doing well...clearly a risk.

Wrighty-this is a recurring and worrying problem...there was talk of specialists earlier in the season.I dont think anyone but Wrighty ,the club and the doctors have any idea and they may not be sure.

cover-take your point but it could mean he is available IF ROBBO wants him

Four man attack with no Parnell and two seamers? You may rethink that by Wednesday.

How does this have relevence to Lou Vincent whose on a ONE-DAY contract?

Is Wright not back on Monday? If he is fit enough for Monday then surely he will play on Wednesday. If so Wright at 6 and Brown at 7 with Machan or Gatting coming in for Wells.

Robbo is quoted above as saying that although Lou is on a one day contract he can provide cover for CC if needed.I said if he is not needed for Wednesday as cover he never will be.Can you see the relevance of my comment now?

Robbo is also quoted on Sussex TV as saying that although Luke Wright may be "patched up" for 20/20 he is unlikely to be able to play any other cricket.Sounds like a serious knee injury that requires a pain killer for 20/20 but cant take 4 days.Hence while he might play on monday you are wrong to say that means he will surely be fit for wednesday.

And its Nash missing not Wells...So its Machan AND Gatting or you need Vincent.

I dont think our batting could be thinner than for this game with no Nash Prior or Wright.

I think we all agree the balance would be best with six bats plus the keeper (Brown or Hodd)

Joyce,Yardy,Goodwin, Wells plus two( from Machan Vincent Hodd or Brown,Gatting). If Vincent isnt needed now he never will be.

I prefer Ollie to Monty because of his batting, fielding and wickets(he did get a 5fer as soon as he returned right?)

mine too...reckon its about to crash soon
