Sussex of course but favourite players Graveney all time hero, and Sir Garfield Sobers
simply the most gifted and brilliant cricketer I have seen in 50 years.
Favourite all time Sussex player Colin Wells.Of our current and very recent players has to be Ollie Raynor.
Good news that people inside cricket are making their feelings known against these stupid and ill thought out proposals
By 2014 I believe 50over Int cricket will be under pressure to make way for 20 overs.
I do not know the answer but just pointing out that EPL will be of no benefit to the small clubs , who are not in financial ruin.
This whole mess is caused by the big clubs spending millions they do not have on rebuilding new grounds . I hope no club evers folds.
I do agree with you RF but IPL pays a fortune and given that cricket is going the way of football players are only interested in where the most money is . loyalty is where the biggest wage cheque is .
Thats modern soccer and modern cricket .
An EPL will result in all the non Test grounds going under. Do we expect Sussex v Derby in a2020
tourny to bring in any money or interest if the EPL is going on .
I pray that Sussex continues but will stick to my old worn record that 2020 will take over and all
small clubs will fold including Sussex.
EPL will be on big grounds although at present none of them seem to be making a financial success of 2020
I am not being an old diehard but why should all the small clubs ,who are being run properly , have to fold to keep the big ones a live .
Sorry but if any clubs have to fold then let it be Glam Hants and Yorks who seem to be in a financial mess .
A very good night with lots of laughter as always . Curry was very good and thanks to Sweaty for his efforts
No Kolpaks signed by anyone yet this winter . Most teams are struggling to find a proper OS though
Cannot really criticise as England were out for 72.
Somerset should not be furious .It took me about 30 secs on cricinfo to see he has played 5 odi since april 2010 , and he has to have played 15 . (He played a lot of odi in 2009 so he was ok for 2011.)
If Somerset's CEO did his job properly he would not have offered this guy a contract . Sorry but OS qualifications are basic . Albie played his 15th ODI since April 2010 this week so is ok .
I do think the rules are stupid and the total amount of ODI played should count and not just those in the last 2years . In Tests its 1 Test in the last 2 years but 5 in the last 5years . Why not set a figure for so many ODI in the last 5 years !!
well asdf with only 7 Cc games Sussex wont play just 5 CC games at Hove .Its goodbye to Horsham but Arundel may well survive.
We are on the slippery slope and the counties just accepting this is like Turkeys voting for Christmas. Less 4 day cricket and no 40 overs will mean less members. 50 over games are nowhere near as popular as 40 overs and will make less money .And 50 overs wont last too much longer at Int level as 2020 Ints take over.
The reason we have to have this change is due to 2020 in India .IPL and CL . Sadly 2020 is taking over and will win .
I will enjoy 2012 and not worry about the future. I have accepted that the game I love will soon be killed off along with half the counties .I cannot moan as due to my age I have had 50 years of watching it .
agree with his views .In the new Cricketer there is a survey involving several players and 13 CEO
and they seem happy with the 2012 format.
Morgan evidently does propose in Cc 2 divs of 9 playing 14 games .
In 50 overs 2 divs of 10 playing each other once ie 9 games but every team plays a10th game ie they play a team from the other division!!!!!!!!!
No idea how this idiot Morgan proposes that 18 teams play 14 games of 2020.I could look it up but frankly do not give a toss how much 2020 is played .I do know sky will want it played in the middle of the summer when there is no football.
PLEASE MR MAY AND MR BROOKS TELL US YOU AND THE COUNTIES ARE NOT GOING ALONG WITH THIS FARCE???????????
Sharkey ,you would have dismissed Jason's figures because he did not play in the Sussex League.
Goring were in the Sussex Invitation league at the time I believe
I would imagine that Xian and Sweaty will give details of their new team . Brighton Clayton Adelaide or what ever the new name is.
I would imagine that back in 1988 Sharkey would have said 17 year old Goring CC bowler Jason Lewry was crap !!!!!!!!!!
Have to say Albie and or Squat Styris would be good signings for 2020 .Gayle would still be my first choice.
Just read the comments on cricinfo from the counties and it does not show the majority agree
with the changes . It appears from these quotes that Sussex prefer 40 overs and 16 x 4 dayers .
Sweaty I agree with your points . The big deal breaker for me is if most of the CC games are in April and Sept but the bottom line is I have been in love with the county game for 50 years .I still get a buzz everytime I walk into the ground although I except that come 2014 Horsham are unlikely to stage one of the 7 CC games .
The real people running the game are India and because we have bent over backwards to enter the CL which will be mid Sept from now onwards the season has to end early . Thus our season
gets cut to suite India.
I quess how I feel is summed up by George Dobell on cricinfo ,sorry I cannot paste it but the article sums it up for me .
Maybe the supporters of all counties need to put up a national campaign.
We have a hugh problem here on this messageboard in that it is official. I therefore cannot really say what I think as those in power at this club have happily forced this farce through without consulting the fans.
Maybe our CEO or Chairman can explain why we the fans were not consulted and I do not mean just Sussex but at all 18 counties. It appears from the article on cricinfo that nobody really wants this but like sheep they have all followed on and done what big Brother at Lords wants .
Sadly ordinary members have little or no say in how their game is organised .
I feel like saying sod it let them destory the beautiful game. Money has destroyed football in this country and money is well on the way to destroying cricket.
2013 will likely be my last season as a member . 7 home games of CC mainly in April and Sept ,I
love 40 overs but not 50 overs and 2020 is all the same and I can watch it on Tv .
County cricket as I know it will be dead by 2020 ,appropriate year !
Given I do not follow IPL or remotely interested in it what are the rules regarding english county players in it ?
The IPL goes right through to the end of May would Luke therefore miss the first half of our CC season??
Will the IPL pay some of his Sussex contract ?
15 ODI or 2020 in the past 2 years , or 1 Test in the last 2 years or 5 Test in last 5 years .
PS sharkey I only quoted 11 as he played his first one of 2010 in February .
Just went on to cricinfo to check Morkel's odi and see he has been picked for SA in this months odi v SL . He played 11x ODI from May to Nov 2010 so if he plays 4 odi this month he will be eligible for a work permit . He will at best only be a 2020 player for a county .Parnell in SA one day squad as well . Both will be at IPl and in SA one day squad this summer .
Mc Laren wont get a Work permit as he played 8 odi's back in 2010 and none since .
Hi Andrew .I meant to say the referee gave a red because thats the rules . Players are not allowed to kick or hit members of the public.
When I first saw the incident, as it was happening, I did indeed think the goalie was meerly defending himself but as with everything when they showed it again it was clear to me and most of my fellow fans on our site that the goalie started kicking the guy when he was on the floor.
The goalie was provoked but the thug once he had made his karate type kick ended up on the floor and it was then the goalie laid into him. That was not self defence but the goalie had lost the plot a bit .
The goalie has been let off and I now wait to see what punishment my club is given . The thug will probably be given a rap over the knuckles and told not to do it again.
NB The thug should not be called a fan he certainly is not an Ajax fan as his action could result in the club being kicked out of the cup and losing alot of money .
Was watching on the internet and very sad night . The goalie would have been arrested had it been in England .
I said on my site that although provoked the goalie started kicking the idiot when he was on the ground and you cannot do that .
Had the goalie not started kicking the guy there would have been no red card and after a minute or2 to settle everyone down the game would have gone ahead
The referee did the correct thing to issue the red and that resulted in the AZ coach calling his players off.
The red card has now been rescinded and I think the remaining 55 mins will be played in the new year . They have a 4 week break now and abandoned games end up being replayed with just the remaining minutes of the game being played.AZ have indicated they will play the remainder of the game but not with 10 men so the goalie has been let off.
Not a great night for football or the 41000 who had paid to watch. Not surprisingly everyone forgot about the superb goal scored by our full back .
Albie Morkel played 12 ODI in 2010 and none in 2011 so that means he and McLaren wont get work permits for 2012 unless they have wives who hold EU passports.
TC
Mc Laren's only Test was January 2010 thus come April 2012 when a work permit is required he will not have played the min 1 Test in 2 years . Any way he wont be available until June due to IPl so not worth worrying about for Sussex.
