It has to be either our own or someone special really doesn't it?  How do you get someone who will improve our team and, who actually would anyway, apart from the likes of Key, Carberry, ect?  Did we try and get Moore last season?  He may have helped.

Not sure but Warwicks pulled out because of his huge salary demands. Averages 25 for Lancs this year after 27 for Worcs last year  (when as opener he never got a 50 in the first innings) so neither of us missed anything.

didn't Moore want to only join a Div 1 county in any case (ruling us out) in order to ahem enhance his England/Lion propsects, as he'd been yo-yoing with Worcs between Divs 1 & 2 ?

Re: Other counties

I think he got a ton against the Aussies for the Lions, that's what got him England recognition.  Not exactly the reliable bat we search for though - good one-day player I reckon.

Re: Other counties

You're right about Moore 3rdman.  He left us to improve his chances of playing for England - thats the official line.  But I'm afraid he's proven himself to be a Div 2 bully.  This is his third season in Div 1 and unfortunately he can't get past an average of 30.

If he doesn't make it in cricket he has a lot of other options though.  He's very intelligent and has qualifications coming out of his ears.  By all accounts he can do pretty much what he pleases.

Funnily enough, he has been good this year since his move. But before that hes been nigh on dreadfull in the short form of the game. Another reason why I was delighted Lancs out bid us for him.

Of course, at the time, I didnt know Chopra would arrive instead  mad

If RF thinks we should have gone for Moore it puts a huge question mark over his judgement on other selection matters.

Why's that?  I've always said you should be allowed a maximum of three outsiders and one OS star to back up your seven Academy grads - If that's the reason you said that?

I wasn't really suggesting we should have anyway, but with all the talk of bringing in an opener he'd be of the right quality and age to actually improve our side - although his CC form in the last two years doesn't really back that up.

No. The reason is that you thought he was worth going for and your belief that he is a good one day player. This flies in the face of all the available evidence.

Also, a bit of a U-turn saying that you didn't suggest we should have, as you said 'Did we try and get Moore last season?  He may have helped.'. If not as a batsman, in what capacity?

Re: Other counties

Ravenshill - He may have helped.  I'll say Trescothick may help too, doesn't mean I think we should sign him, or does it?  If the available evidence is recent one-day form then look at it.

I said I think he's a good one-day player and he is at the moment, unless scoring runs quickly is bad my man?  Also, to say me thinking Moore is a decent player puts huge question marks over my opinions is ridiculous to the extreme.

Even when I'm bemused that people think Keegan, for example, is a good player, I wouldn't go as far as to say there opinion is riddled with huge question marks, maybe a little one at worst.

Bit harsh mate, just my opinion on the guy, he's better than Solanki.  England rate Moore too don't they?  Idiots!

Re: Other counties

In this case, yes, England's selectors were idiots. Their interest in him made no sense at all. It was a bit of a daft period for them as they fancied Denly too and he was the 6th best England qualified opener on the South coast at best.

In first class he is perhaps about the equal of Solanki but a fair bit behind in one-day but both are no more than decent Div2 players who look of their depth the next level up. I haven't thrown my hat into the ring on the Solanki subject and would hope for something better, he would only be short term and makes more sense than someone who would probably be anticipating playing for another 6 or 7 years.

I don't see what you object to with Keegan. A decent acquisition and probably not too expensive given his history. He is no Kirtley but a strike rate of around a wicket every 4 overs for us is good enough to justify his place.

Hampshire after Solanki for next year

The lad Footit from Derby is pushing it through tonight, he obviously didn't cause us many problems last week but would be a pretty handy bowler if he could get it right consistently...

And creates a new record. Warwicks interest in him was only announced in the press this morning. Previous record holder, Ryan Maclaren, took a week from our first approach to signing a new contract with Kent.  mad

Is Rogers overseas or locally qualified?  Does this mean Middx expect to lose Shah and Morgan?
