The only other county without an OS is now Kent, thats the team with Van Jaarsveld, MacLaren Kemp and Azar .

We are hardly in a position to complain about other counties fielding Kolpak players or players on EU passports!

Agreed, but would you prefer it if we took the Glamorgan route to success?

Re: Other counties

Mart

I believe what he is getting at is that the SYSTEM is flawed, which it obviously is.

Personally I favour Sweatys solution, sign & play who you want but only get any subsidy from ECB for England qualified players.....

Re: Other counties

I agree 100% the system is flawed. By cutting the number of overseas players from 2 to 1 counties have replaced 2 good overseas players with 4/5 substandard Kolpak players instead! If ECB wants to reduce the number of non-qualified players then it needs to make the financial penalty sufficiently high enough that it will force counties to have to act!

Re: Other counties

Meanwhile Adams has announced his first squad and it makes very interesting reading! Ramprakash is obviously banned and Butcher is injured but Scott Newman has also been left out! In their place are Matt Spriegel, Laurie Evans and James Benning. Chris Murtagh very unlucky to miss out after scoring fifty against the students. The bowling is also interesting and is likely to feature Andre Nel, Jade Dernbach, Chris Jordan, Alex Tudor and Chris Schofield. Michael Brown captains the side.

Re: Other counties

system is a farce.I just laughed when Northants and Durham said we are doing without an OS as if they want a medal.

Re: Other counties

And this season's prize for the most OS,( non english qualified) no not us with 5 ,but Somerset with 7. Today Langer Willoughby De Bruyn Suppiah Kieswetter and Banks played with Thomas not picked. Suppiah has no Uk passport and neither Keiswetter nor Banks  although Uk passport holders have completed their 4 years qualifying.

Unlike Sussex who will feature an Irishman, Zimbabewian, South African, Australian, German and a West Indian i.e. 6 like Somerset!  lol

Highly promising young man, i wonder if he would have been allowed to play for any other county or whether CSA have agreed only because he will be with Graham Ford.

Re: Other counties

Noticed a small article in the Telegraph today that states Darren Maddy will miss the entire Warwickshire season.

He snapped an anterior cruciate knee ligament jumping to catch a ball during training and is expected to be sidelined for 9 months, not good news for a 35 year old.

Re: Other counties

Not good for Maddy. I see Patel has turned up so the only OS still waiting for a visa is Rogers , who had a contract for this season last Sept .
7 months to obtain a visa is some record!!

Re: Other counties

Northants have signed Ian Harvey for 20/20 's

Will the last person to leave Oz, probably Mr and Mrs Croweater, please close the door behind them

Re: Other counties

And i've been told on good authority that Ned Kelly is on his way to take over the tea franchise in the JP bar .........

Re: Other counties

Staurt Clark is signing for Glos for 3weeks and will play in 3 CC games before going of to the  Tests. How nice of us to get him into form.

If Sussex were to sign Brett Lee for 3 weeks I would be more than happy.

Re: Other counties

HAHAHA...I might have guessed it would be you two who failed to see the 'Freak's' signing as anything but an inspirational piece of shrewd cricket genius by Capes!  lol

Don't worry though, we only really need one bloke in Australia. He's the one who's trying to find room in the trophy cabinet for the Ashes when it comes home to it's rightful resting place...AGAIN!  tongue

Re: Other counties

I shouldn't think that The Ashes would take up much space in any trophy cabinet...

Re: Other counties

Will Jefferson of Notts is supposedly in talks with Leicestershire while Yorkshire are reported to have made a 28 day approach to Leicestershire for Boeta Dippenaar who, i presume, is a kolpak, or maybe not, would he even know himself ?

Re: Other counties

I see on the BBC ins and outs that Kent have made a 28 day approach to Worcestershire for Chris Whelan while Worcester have responded with 28 dayers to Yorkshire for both Matthew Hoggard and Ajmal Shahzad.

Re: Other counties

What exactly are the transfer rules in cricket?

Can a player play for more than one county in a season?

when can you legally approach an in contract player?

Can a club talk to an incontract player if he approaches them?

Can you sign pre-contract agreements

Triple Century

Re: Other counties

yes you can play for more than one - Rikki Clarke did last year. In outline:

A list goes out in early April of all players out of contract at the end of the summer. You can then approach them after giving their county 28 days notice of your intention. They cant stop you. But its only notice of intention to talk and not binding on anyone

If a player has a contract beyond the current season you cant approach them unless their club agree, If you - or any of your agents - do theres a minimum £20,000 fine.  (lol - it still happens a lot - allegedly).

Re: Other counties

Bit of a bummer here, i found this article in the Metro today but can't seem to track it down on their website   sad

So, here goes, 'written' by Matt Spriegel and amusingly titled 'Ambitious Surrey will not stand for this mediocrity much longer'

Although it seems we are getting through a lot of players at the Brit Oval lately, it's obvious our cricket manager Chris Adams is searching for that winning formula, something which has deserted us for much of this season. We have had a lot of different cricketers here over the summer, which is not ideal, but we are not in contention to win anything now so it's a good time for the coach to look at everyone. We have appraisals coming up in the next few weeks and hopefuly it will mean good news. There will be a few more signings on top of the ones made already but the key to any side is consistency and getting the right XI out on the pitch. The coach and the club are ambitious and they won't want to settle for the sort of season we have had this time for much longer. Chris has changed a lot of things since the start of the season but puts his faith in you to do the right things. We have some brilliant coaches at the club and on top of that we now have a nutritionist, who we all see once a month. We now work far harder at getting into the right habits although it will inevitably take some time before the results are seen on the pitch. The younger guys need to take a lead now and make a play for a place next season but the older guys also need to put the performances too. It has been grim on the pitch at times but the atmosphere off it has been very good. It's easy to think it may be hard to get a social side up and running with the comings and goings we have had this campaign but it's been very good; no bust-ups yet anyway!
