I see on the BBC ins and outs that Kent have made a 28 day approach to Worcestershire for Chris Whelan while Worcester have responded with 28 dayers to Yorkshire for both Matthew Hoggard and Ajmal Shahzad.
Why aren't Yorks rushing out an extension on Shahzad's contract? He's young, tons of promise, decent bowler and a good batter to boot.

Looks like Kartik might be replacing Langer as Somerset overseas player in 2010:
Somerset news:
Trescothick is new skipper:

Somerset sign club cricketer:

Kieswetter and Suppiah awarded county caps:
According to the BBC, Somerset have signed Murali Kartik as their overseas player for next season, hardly an inspiring signing

Let's hope he doesn't do a Mushy ![]()

They've offered him an extension but he is considering his options (one is Warwicks) - decision will turn on what he fells is best for his England future. We are also considering Hoggy as a Donald replacement. Worcester have pulled out of both approaches. Heard that there are loads of unhappy players at Middlesex .

Thanks Kim - an opportunity in that last sentence, perhaps?
Whelan signed a new contract for Worcs.
Middx seems a good place to try for new bowlers.
There are a several of Middlesex bowlers that I would like to see down here- Finn,Evans or Murtagh.
How nice, we get to see him in action again next year

Worcestershire have offered five Academy players contracts. Ben Cox is a keeper and the other four are batsmen. Left handed batsman Jack Manuel had already signed two year contract as had left armer Jack Shantry. Worcestershire have promoted seven players in all from their Academy / 2XI. Here is the link to the news story:

With nine players having left the club and only Richardson and the above seven youngsters having signed more players are likely to follow especially as they currently have no spinners and only a 17 year old keeper and no cover.

I'm sure i've seen this face before
Interesting comment about "two years to come in" perhaps that means that they know breaking contracts may be easier said than done.
I would like to see the likes of Nash, Wright & RHB offerred contract extensions with significant salary increases.

Probably referring to Big Bob Key there - hopefully none of our boys, but I'm sure there will be.
In which case some contract extension offers would probably put a few minds at ease...
I don't like the way that cricket appears to be going, it's not a very nice feeling at the moment having this speculation and these so called bigger clubs sniffing around our boys as they can't produce their own.
It unsettles the fans, the players themselves and all in all has a detrimental effect on the whole club and takes away the focus of playing cricket.
Would agree .The worst thing is the 2 rich teams are Slurrey and Lancs both from hugh areas of population and far more young cricketers to pick from than Sussex , who in effect only pick from Brighton College! (sorry Sharkey could not resist that)
Maybe we need to cast our net further afield in our search for young pace bowling talent. OK the bulk of the academy scholars will be locally produced, and so it should be, but a trawl through those areas traditionally linked with fast bowling wouldn't go amiss.

We mustn't risk the county's existence by putting up player's salary by massive amounts. We don't have a bottomless pit of money unlike Surrey! Nash has a contract until 2011 anyway although we could extend Nash, Wright and RHB contracts by a year.
contracts can only be extended if the player in question agrees.
Stephen Mullaney is available (although linked to Notts ) - any interest?
If Lancs offered him 2 years then they think he has potential, so must be worth a look.
It would be an easier path to the 1st XI than at Notts.
If they think he has potential then they don't seem to have given him much of a chance to show it, 2nd XI debut in 2004, 1st XI debut in 2006 ;
not scored many runs if you look at his 4 or 1 days stats. a few wickets though.
no idea!
I think he scored one large and very quick century against one of the universaties & dug Lancs out of a hole. Been given very little opportunity in 4 day cricket.
Good one day average - certainly worth a look.
Reading between the lines I think a move to Notts for Mullaney is pretty much a done deal. I don't know if he is seen as a replacement for Mark Ealham.
Interestingly Notts having released one former Northants spinner a year early in Jason Brown and signed another former Northants spinner Greame White to provide cover for a third former Northants spinner Greame Swann! What are the odds of Monty making it four?
