I take your point Zaremba but somewhere there has to be a limit otherwise there's little point Brown being on the books. But I agree, I think Hodd does have the talent and I hope it comes through.

ok, Hodds form over the last year as droped.but i think brown need to be given the charge to shine maybe 6 game as you say. i have had the luck to have met them i dont wish them bad luck ever of them, i just don't think Zaremba dose that we can give him a "long chance" he has been out of form for allmost a year can we aford to let him for another year... anyway i go back to what apwells says  smile

People seem to keep mentioning RMJ and Muzza's poor form last year as an example of sticking with people who go through a bad patch but they have done so, so much in the past to deserve a stay of grace, Hodd has to perform or what sort of message does it send to Ben Brown? no matter how well you perform you won't get in?

Re: Andy Hodd

Patience!

I'm sure that Brown will have his chances this season - they will probably come in the limited-overs stuff which dominates the middle part of the season - and if he takes them he may force himself into the Championship team.

At the moment I view Hodd as being an important part of the team, he has experience and a good temperament and these are things that we need right now given the gaps that England call-ups have left in our batting.

In terms of the message that is being sent to Brown, well that's a pretty easy one.  The message is, "wait patiently, work hard, your chance will come and when it comes you will get  a fair chance rather than being discarded when your form dips".

Having said that, we are blessed with a number of quality keepers and it is a sad fact of life that we may be unable to keep hold of them all.

i see what you mean but form is more than inportant then him being a "nice guy" if i was robbo i would say to him (Hodd) you have got 6 games to inprove your game if you don't we have ben that will take your place in the team, if that don't stick a rocket up his --- what will   lol  lol  lol  lol

Why dont you get off his back, his keeping has been superb.
He scored 37 and 18 at Cardiff, 7 and dnb against Surrey, he only got 1 and 2 at Bristol, but then its a bowler friendly wicket.
So on what basis do you think they should be considering his starting position.
Quite frankly, IMHO, you  are talking like a pillock.

Steady on big fella, otherwise we'll all be visiting you and Teddie in the same cardiac unit!  yikes

Here's something to cheer you up....

Re: Andy Hodd

Hodd looked good when making 37 at Cardiff, in a partnership that arguably changed the face of the match.  Lets face it, despite winning 3 out of 3, the top-order hasn't really fired as a unit yet, so Hodd should be under no more pressure than the top 5.

Re: Andy Hodd

Although saying that Hodd is more of a county championship player, which should be surprising the amount of times I had that told me by other fans, where Brown is more of a one-day player.  From what I've been told we have a future England wicketkeeper at the club and I don't think we can risk losing that.  Unfortunately we are very lucky with good wicketkeeper's

Re: Andy Hodd

Hoddy did well today and all this talk about dropping him from the championship side is a bit premature. I did however expect Brown to keep wicket for todays match though, especially on the back of two decent scores for the seconds. My understanding was that him and Beer would start the Pro 40 campaign as they both did pretty well last season. Its true to say that our top order hasn't really fired as a unit yet but perhaps too early to see whether its a continuation of the previous seasons batting shortcomings. The main thing is we have won and won well, despite the batting failures. Room for improvement batting wise, yes, but a cracking start to the season nevertheless.

Re: Andy Hodd

Yes I would have liked to see BB in this match.  I'm sure he will get his chances though.

Re: Andy Hodd

yes in my view Andrew was one of the worst victims of fatigue last season - he could hardly score a run in September - this suggests that his workload needs to be reduced (assuming he starts to score some runs) and Benb should be given some outings. Good innings byhim todat, though

Re: Andy Hodd

Yes - Byhim Todat is one of the most promising players around.  Not sure whether he's England qualified though?

Well they may have done if Yardy was still here captaining the side, naturally each captain has a room preference in players.  Before anybody jumped in I know they don't have complete control but they do have some say of who pays and who doesn't

So there you have it - Hodd played only because Goodwin is captain!  roll

Re: Andy Hodd

I didn't say that.  All I was trying to get at is that Murray Goodwin and Michael Yardy are two different players and two different captains.  We have got used to having Michael Yardley picking (having a say) on who is selected in the team, and in past experience this we haven't seen that he is picked more than two spinners.  With Murray Goodwin as captain he decided to only go with the one full-time spinner.

Try to read what I did'nt put down Hailsham Chris, that is not what I'm trying to say and please don't try and read things that are not actually there

Oh very funny

Re: Andy Hodd

Why is anyone suggesting Goodwin chose a different side to that which Yardy would have picked? It has the same rationale as suggesting Hodd gets picket because he throws a tantrum if he's left out. Its this plucking a supposition out of thin air and then treating it as fact that gets rather irritating.

When it comes to team selection I am sure Robbo has the biggest say whoever is captain. The side chosen was because of the conditions and it was the right selection.
