Re: Monty Panesar

Well done to Monty on being pickerd for the Lions. I wonder whenthe next time will be when we have the whole squad together?

Re: Monty Panesar

Whe is this game? Is he missin a CC game if so that is rediculous. I hope the ecb don't mess around with Wright and Yardy when they get back from the 2020 World Cup. Really can't believe either need a rest.

Re: Monty Panesar

International wise its good for the players to get recognition, cant see any rest periods needed though.Monty featuring for the lions can see why flower is including him as still in the selectors mind and it gives ollie a chance to feature in the 1st 1V so everyones a winner.

Re: Monty Panesar

Am I the only one who is really p****ed off that Panesar was picked for this match and hasn't bowled a ball?

Bopara got 3 overs for goodness sake! Mind you - he did take 3 wickets  roll

But surely the point of this match is to see what contenders can do - there is no way Bopara is in line for selection as a bowler.

agree 100% alicatt.

i think bopara is a terrific player and hopefully he will come back again with england at some stage. but in a match like this it is all about giving the england lions players a chance to see what they can do. got no problem turning to a part time bowler like bopara AFTER the main line bowling options have all been tried.

Re: Monty Panesar

I though the same, I just hope he will get a bowl in the second innings. big_smile
Either that or show off his batting and then be selected on that alone.

Murray Goodwin is my God.

......and what happened to Yardy and Wright. Three players taken from us for no reason whatsoever. Thanks England roll

Re: Monty Panesar

2 overs for 8 runs, is hardly a contribution. What was the point in selecting him when thay are giving Bopara more of a bowl? I know it's good that his work is being recognised, but I don't think it's fair on him or Sussex.

Murray Goodwin is my God.

Re: Monty Panesar

Sounds like Cook is trying to do a mate a favour, though perhaps not doing himself any with regards to future captaincy. Bopara's success with the ball may make the decision tactically justified but that isn't what this match is about. The selectors picked Monty to see him bowl and Cook hasn't delivered.

Re: Monty Panesar

Absolutely bizarre.

Re: Monty Panesar

Im astounded, why again england did you pick him!

Re: Monty Panesar

Did anyone hear CMJ discussing Monty yesterday on Test Match Special?

Apparently he was talking to a Sussex Player (wonder which one! wink) about his bowling and RMJ reckons it has been nothing special until very recently when they took fielders from around the bat & repositioned them for driving shots whereupon Monty starting shaping the ball with far more loop and consequent turn.

Haven't heard anything about this from anyone else but would have thought that neither CMJ or RMJ indulge in flights of fancy.....

Re: Monty Panesar

Not sure - they had fielders round the bat this week and Nashy took a catch at short leg off Monty.

All I know is that Monty is working his nuts off to rediscover his England form. He bowled 48 overs in the Worcestershire innins on Monday and Tuesday and when I walked into the ground at 930 on Wednesday morning he was out in the middle bowling at a hankie on the pitch with Davo mitting. I wish him every success. He certainly deserves it.

Re: Monty Panesar

Hes certainly fits the sussex ethos of hard work and have been impressed with his batting prowess as well,as the wickets get harder in the second half of the season he will prosper more.

CMJ repeated this story today while ruminating about whether England should have played two spinners at Lords......

Re: Monty Panesar

Apparently playing for Bexhill at Eastbourne today, and due to bat at three.......

interesting to see if he takes 5,6 or 7 for almost nothing. he should do. he must do!

we are paying good money to monty and dwayne - two big name internationals - to do very little at the moment.

life member - you're stuck with me!

Re: Monty Panesar

Some of you need to get out and watch the Sussex Premier league, they are not all hopeless. What makes you think Panesar should get 5, 6 or 7 wickets in this cricket? Rayner and Beer don't!

Wake up to reality, Panesar will never play for England again and we won't win the world cup in SA!

Lets have a bit more realism. So far Panesars contribution has been average, possibily disappointing considering the number of overs bowled.

Lets show the same support fro Rayner & Beer, they are the real future,

Spot on Stonefish, I don't see Rayner and Beer pulling up any trees in the County league.
Anyway Monty got 4-61 off 26, and 2 while batting, i'm sure thats a failure for some!

Re: Monty Panesar

thats what i expect ,at least hes playing whatever level hes got an appetite for hard work so dont knock him,hes one of a sqaud hence having a sqaud ,a very good all round sqaud by the way and robbo cant play them all.

Re: Monty Panesar

Whilst it's great that Monty has gone to play at one of the smaller premier league teams rather then turning out for Hove or Eastbourne with all their Pros, I have to ask why he's not playing up at Three Bridges?  Developing the Asian cricket players in Sussex has always been a problem, and Crawley has one of the biggest communities in Sussex.  This could have been a great opportunity for the county to really develop interest from outside the normal areas.

Forget the youngsters, we want the old timers back!

Good post - I agree with this. Its an opportunity missed and the development of interest in sussex cricket is an important issue that the county has repeatedly failed to address despite our great history of employing great asian superstars.

Another excellent post from the wiseman. Monty is working his socks off at the moment.

Re: Monty Panesar

I have to agree, a good effort from Monty turning up and playing for Bexhill. He doesn't have to play league cricket so it's nice to see that he wants to play as much as possible. By all accounts he played on the premise that he would bat at 3 - although judging by the stats he didnt have long in the middle.

I have been one of the more vocal posters stating the case against the signing of Monty and I maintain it was wrong for so many reasons. But I would like to re-iterate that I wish Monty well and hope he wins matches for Sussex. By all accounts a very nice lad.
