A gig sounds good, Crowie - anyway we did speak to your lad, but decided to do our own thing - mainly because we didnt want to pay for a hospitality package that we didnt really need/ want (yes my reputation as a tight git continues)

Well you must be REALLY tight (even for a Scot), because I just spoke to Andy and he said he'd throw in the corporate box with the price of entry (plus a nominal 1 or 2 quid per head to cover the waiter service). I've been in those boxes and they give a great view of the ground (with a balcony) - also handy if it rains, 'cause you don't have to venture out into the rain for your beers.

Steve also said they'd put a gig on.

Re: Messageboard Jolly

Cheers, Crowie -Any views, folks (on the hospitality bit)?

Re: Messageboard Jolly

I have just updated myself to earth time 2010 and would like to upgrade from maybe to very possible. Its very possible that I will be able to come.Maybe.

Having reread this thread  I realise that organising a jolly is like herding cats.

Can sweaty recap the timelines for confirmations bookings etc ?

Croweaters offer of "throwing in a hospitality box with the entrance fee" is a fair dinkum  treat. How much do they pay us to go in anyway?

Re: Messageboard Jolly

Chris is the expert on when we need to confirm for definite, TC but imagine mid April should be ok - maybe even later

Ok that will be good for me.Today the daughters flight to Gatwick was cancelled not because South London Pete has em on strike but because South England softies cant handle snow.(My poor Trinidadian daughter has never seen snow and thought her first term at Uni was winter big_smile )

I will firm up my itinerary by all fools day and unlike Paperboy I can give up the 20/20 world cup final in a free hospitality box in Barbados(May 18) and the WI v SA ODI at QPCC (also a freebee) just to see the illustrious Northampton and Croweater drink coffee and eat crow.Does the hotel have wireless internet? or running water?

Re: Messageboard Jolly

Ok I have provisionally booked 9 twin and 1 single (something to do with late night porn ) rooms with full English Breakfast at the Langham Hotel in Northampton, arriving May 18 for 3 nights.
There is off road car parking, it isnt the Ritz, 3 star but is a family run hotel with some good reviews and about 800 yards from town centre for the evenings.
Cost is £65 per twin per night including brekkie, but they have given us a £10 discount per room so £27.50 per head per night.

Booking is provisional, i've told them i'll confirm exact numbers nearer the time.

Re: Messageboard Jolly

Looks good mate,

At least they've got new tv's in the room's.

The 3 button on our remote control was dodgy last year in Birmingham and Slid was trying to check something on teletext and couldn't get it to work, he kept pressing it and pressing it and just couldn't get it to work! He went absolutley banana's and very red waving this remote control at the telly - me and Xian thought he was gonna put his foot through the tv!

Guess you had to be there but one of the funniest things I have witnessed in years  lol  lol

Agreed mate, and what made it funnier was he got even more infuriated when the inevitable happened. When the 3 finally came up it made up for lost time and the number became 333 recurring which put him back where he started. Funnier if you know Slid obviously, but yes absolutely hilarious at the time. Speaking of the great man, I bumped into him in his work place (corals) and told him about the trip. "I will be there shun, dont you worry about that" was his response, so I guess you can add Mr Scott Land!!!!! aka Slidoffski, the man the bookies fear to the list of definites Chris smile

Re: Messageboard Jolly

Yes thanks Chris for all of the organising that you have done much appreciated.

Re: Messageboard Jolly

I am still in the very possible category but will make a final decision by March(I have booked a plane just in case because BA fares go up once they get any bookings) . I have recognised that I will miss the 20/20 world cup final in Barbados that will delay Paperboy, and not make it back in time for WI V SA at QPCC on Sat 22. The sacrifices one has to make. yikes
Is the best way to Gatwick from northampton by train? And if I have to overnight at Gatwick what is the messageboard recommended hostelry?
Getting to northampton from say London by train again I guess.May be preferable for me to travel the night before...how do you all plan to get there and when....?

Re: Messageboard Jolly

TC,if you can take the risk of getting into the Sweatymobile (given that my last car blew up on the way to Birmingham at the last jolly) id be happy to pick you up from, say Gatwick train station, and give you a lift back there
