Topic: ProARCH tournament Mar 2010

Well if we have any players left come next March, Gus & Co can have a last minute spending spree when we join them in the ProARCH trophy. Come to think of it, he took the Emirates sponsorship with him too when he left for the dark side. mad

Probably share a hotel with a team of bailiffs.

Re: ProARCH tournament Mar 2010

Notts have confirmed we're also playing them in a one-day friendly (ECB website and their local rag)

Re: ProARCH tournament Mar 2010

I've been a little out of touch lately so I'm not too sure if this has already appeared elsewhere:

The Cape Cobras – the reigning Twenty20 champions of South Africa – are braced for a battle royale with England’s top side after signing up for the inaugural Emirates Airline Twenty20.

From 2014 I have doubts that being a Sussex fan will continue to be the best sporting pleasure on the planet.

Afridi to star in amateur side at Emirates Airline Twenty20

Re: ProARCH tournament Mar 2010

So on March 19 and 20 we play a 20/20 tournament in the Emirates. Not the best warm up for CC but do we have any other fixtures while in Dubai other than two 20/20 games. And if it is supposed to be Cape cobras and sussex as champions why did anybody invite Surrey??

Surrey probably invited us, to see if any of our youngsters are worth poaching

Re: ProARCH tournament Mar 2010

I hope we do alright :S

but we have a two day friendly against Northants on the day after the Notts warm up, which is more like it

Anyone know who & when we play the 40ovs games?

Re: ProARCH tournament Mar 2010

Re: ProARCH tournament Mar 2010

how do we play Cape cobras i n the emirates when they are playing a 4 day gane in Cape Town?

Re: ProARCH tournament Mar 2010

that is an excellent question tc - it's their 'emerging' / 2nd XI...

http://www.dispatch.co.za/article.aspx?id=388245

but on closer reading it's as reported in the press article that Paperboy's post above links to :

The Cobras team - managed by former international spinner Omar Henry - will be made up of emerging talent from their high-performance pipeline, as well as experienced professionals.

Prof Andre Odendaal, Chief Executive of the Cobras, is delighted to be taking part. He said: “We are very excited to be coming to Dubai and for our players to able to test themselves against England’s number one Twenty20 side makes it extra special.

“This tournament is another small step in the rapid globalisation of domestic cricket following the successful IPL revolution.

“Having played the Rajasthan Royals in a one-off ‘Clash of the Champions’ and reached the semi-finals in the first Champions League tournament in India, our franchise is keen to widen its horizons further and give exposure to our young talent.

“This is part of developing top talent in our region and the Emerging Cape Cobras are going to Dubai with the aim of learning and winning.”

possibly just as well as Puttick and van Zyl have put on 244 runs on day 1 at Newlands...

Yes, Surrey are there.

Re: ProARCH tournament Mar 2010

Rory Stars
RHB top scores and takes two wickets as Surrey crush the Emirates Airline baggage Handlers XI by eight runs

Re: ProARCH tournament Mar 2010

In the first game, Surrey beat the Emirates XI by 8 runs.

Batting first, Surrey posted 159 for 6, someone called Rory Hamilton-Brown topscored with 41 off just 23 balls with two 6's and four 4's.  The Emirates put up a good fight but fell short on 151 for 9, someone called Rory Hamilton-Brown taking 2-29 off his 4 overs!

The Emirates XI included Afridi who gave Surrey a scare, scoring 35 from just 20 balls until he was caught by someone called Rory Hamilton-Brown.

I see that one of the umpires was Mohammad Ali... pity he couldn't have biffed someone called Ror........  !!

Re: ProARCH tournament Mar 2010

I wonder if the last line of the homepage story (Sussex prepare) is the first sneaky move by our nasty neighbours in attempting to turn our Monty's head....  roll

Re: ProARCH tournament Mar 2010

You just know that somebody is going to say we are playing a load of cobras today. I wonder who it will be? cool

Re: ProARCH tournament Mar 2010

And despite some confusion...  (it said that we won the toss and elected to field, when in fact we batted)...  horrendously the same baggage handlers + Afridi have restricted us to a miserable 110 for 7, with only Nash (45 off 42) and Thornely (18 off 35 ... not a bad rate for a CC match!) reaching double figures.

But.. aha, maybe we were playing on another strip, because we kept them to 103 for 8 (running out Afridi for 8)

Nash's 2 wickets making him the best of the bowlers too.
