Re: ECB Unicorns vs Sussex 23rd May

thanks dr sla / Chris - I already have an advance ticket (I was quoting £20 only as an example for those who decide late and turn up on the day).  As dr sla is finding, Arundel Castle CC ticket office is not staffed full-time... (I think between 10 and 3 ?).

I've just spotted that Arundel is also the venue for two games between England U-19's and Australia U-19's on 9th and 10th August.

I emailed Arundel and asked the question and this was their reply..........

Ticket prices have not yet been approved by ECB but it is anticipated that they will be £15 per day. Cars will be charged £5 to park.
There is no affiliation with Sussex CCC members for these 2 one day matches.

The whole pricng on this match is rediculous. I would have gone if it was £10 for adults but not £15.

its ment to be £10 if you ring before the game... been trying that allday since 10 and ther not picking the phones up

Re: ECB Unicorns vs Sussex 23rd May

Given it is Arundel I was tempted but having paid out for membership I do object to having to pay £15 to watch Sussex v the oddballs X1 on a Sussex homeground .

Re: ECB Unicorns vs Sussex 23rd May

I rang on  Monday and got through 2nd time. Ticket arrived in post yesterday no problem.

I think the answer was to not leave it till the last minute.

I know it's at Arundel but it's not OUR game. If anyone is to blame for the pricing it is the ECB. But it was they that merged the 50 and 40 over competitions and came up with what we have this season. When Ireland refused the invitation to play they dreamt up the Unicorns to fill the void.
I don't begrudge paying this to see Sussex play in an idealic setting even if it is against then Unicorns. I think to call them the Oddballs XI is a bit harsh seeing as they gave us a fright at Hove and beat Glamorgan last week !
And the ECB only pay them expenses , which I think is an insult, hence some of the initial squad pulled out.
After our game with them, Robbo was quoted as saying that they would beat someone ..and they have.
WE must and will take this game very seriously.
I think some of the comments on this thread have been rather negative.

Let's enjoy Sunday and get behind the boys.

ps: coverpoint you must of had beter info than Sussex Member who use's the Sussex web site for info. So how do exspect me to order the tickets when all the info we get is 3 days before the game. Now your telling me that I shoulnt leve it to the last minute when Sussex only put it up yesterday arfternoon, wich I didn't see intill 11 pm lastnight. I rang 9 time today and left 2 arncer phone mesegers and have heard nothing from them.

Re: ECB Unicorns vs Sussex 23rd May

Left an answer phone message for them on Wednesday and they got back to me first thing Thursday morning. Very helpful lady sorted out my ticket to pick up on the gate Sunday.

Just seen on the Arundel website that due to unforseen circumstances the Australians have now been replaced by the Sri Lankan u19 team.
It also confirms that prices are £15 for adults and £10 for concessions.

Re: ECB Unicorns vs Sussex 23rd May

Hi,phoned Arundel yesterday morning between 09.30 and 10.00am,ordered tickets and paid for them by card, and was told they would be on gate for collection.Very pleasant lady.Tickets were 10.00 and 5.00 for my boy.We must remember that this is away fixture and will not be as expensive as some away prices.

Re: ECB Unicorns vs Sussex 23rd May

It is an 'away' match, but I have some sympathy with dr sla  - as the Unicorns have little natural support (a few WAGS and their parents maybe ) I do think the  ECB could have done more to encourage the 'visitors' to promote the fixture /sell tickets to their own members / supporters (especially when the fixture is in their own county)...

though having said that like sussexalbion and coverpoint  I found the Arundel CC ticket lady very helpful - returned my message next day and sent the tickets out.

Anyway looking  forward to it, lets hope its a good game - good weather forecast, and a strong squad selected by Sussex - I think it very dangerous to view the 'oddball XI' as a pushover - they scored 200+ against us and Somerset, beat Glamorgan and shared the points with Surrey  wink

Re: ECB Unicorns vs Sussex 23rd May

Why after two fifties in his last three innings has Thornely been dropped? Gatting recalled!  roll

Re: ECB Unicorns vs Sussex 23rd May

Thorners has played all games so far this season. Maybe Robbo is intending to play the side below and just has Gatting and Keegan as cover.

It may also be an indication that Thornely is likely to be the player keeping his place in the Championship game for Worcs.

CD Nash
EC Joyce
LJ Wright
MW Goodwin
MH Yardy (c)
AJ Hodd (wkt)
Yasir Arafat (or Keegan if Yas isn't risked)
RSC Martin-Jenkins
OP Rayner (or Gatting if we play extra batter)
RJ Kirtley
MS Panesar

Re: ECB Unicorns vs Sussex 23rd May

Slightly confused - is Thornely in the squad or not? This is the squad per the Argus:

http://www.theargus.co.uk/sport/8180305 … T20_stars/

No Gatting but Thornely is in the 13 man squad. If this is the squad I would leave out Rayner and Keegan. If the Sussex website is correct I would leave out Gatting and Keegan.

Re: ECB Unicorns vs Sussex 23rd May

Maybe Gatting does deserve his place in the squad after this knock:

Looks like a quality knock, but it was a very poor Bexhill attack. I guess you can only beat whats put in front of you.

Re: ECB Unicorns vs Sussex 23rd May

Wow. Well done Joe - thats been coming for sometime. Poor bloke has worked so hard for every run this season, nobody can begrudge him a few cheap one!

Re: ECB Unicorns vs Sussex 23rd May

Despite my irritation at the price, I think I will make an appearance today - its a nice day and Arundel is always a good place to go. Looking forward to seeing our two world cup men in action
Anyone else going?

Re: ECB Unicorns vs Sussex 23rd May

Yes... on the way to Arundle.  we have to get the season back on tracks.

I do hope we choose a balanced team.  With Wright, RMJ and Yaz back in the attack, surely we only need on other seam bowler, Kirtley or Keegan, but not both.  If we go in planning to bowl 40 overs of seam, then we are back in the cricketing dark ages.

So hopefully either Ollie, to give us greater spin balance, or play another batsman... namely JoeG.

Play well Sussex, there's rebuilding to do.

I don't begrudge him a single run, and if it sends his confidence in the right direction, it can only be good for us.
It's obvious it's just a second season blip, and he's far to good to struggle for too long.

Re: ECB Unicorns vs Sussex 23rd May

Well we've won the toss and are batting

CD Nash, JS Gatting, EC Joyce, MW Goodwin, MH Yardy*, LJ Wright, AJ Hodd†, RSC Martin-Jenkins, Yasir Arafat, MS Panesar, RJ Kirtley

be interesting to see what the batting order will be. slightly surprised if it is as listed with wright at 6

Re: ECB Unicorns vs Sussex 23rd May

No BBC coverage so its down to the Argus blog.

Re: ECB Unicorns vs Sussex 23rd May

93-1 Nash just gone for 51.I wish he could get his maden one day century.

4 changes from last week. We look a stronger side with Yardy & Wright. Yasir back hopefully means he will be fit for tomorrow.
