A recent survey of messageboarders suggested a higher than average divorce rate...manage the expectations....tell her you are going every day and then surprise her with flowers. smile

Re: ECB Unicorns vs Sussex 23rd May

325-4 after 40 overs. Excellent score - great to see Gatting hit a 50; that should do his confidence a world of good. He is not a No.3 and never will be. Positions 5 or 6 suit him far better.

If 'The Unicorns' win this game, they'll deserve every accolade going.

Re: ECB Unicorns vs Sussex 23rd May

Yes a challenging score, well done the batting and well done Gatting. Not sure I agree S&F about him not being a number three, its early days and I feel he has all the attributes to eventually bat there.

Re: ECB Unicorns vs Sussex 23rd May

Perhaps, in 3 or 4 years time.

In my view, the No.3 position is the most important in the batting line-up; and a position where you place your best and most experienced batsman. England had similar problems Re: Bopara.

Goodwin should be No.3 and Gatting 5 or 6.

Anyway, let's hope Joe has turned the corner this season.

Re: ECB Unicorns vs Sussex 23rd May

Its all about opinions I suppose, but in an ideal world, I'd have Yardy at three with another genuine opener brought in to partner Nash. Goodwin and Joyce at 4 and 5 respectively. Thornley and Gatting are both still learning the game and would get plenty of chances anyway, with injury, international call ups, loss of form or just simply a change of tactics.
I've said all along I feel we are one batsman short and thats not to take anything away from young Thornley who I have to say has done a pretty good job.

Re: ECB Unicorns vs Sussex 23rd May

Thornley has been the Turkish delight this season. Full of seaside promise!  wink

The problem being, if you bring in an established batsman from outside, this only hinders the progress of the youngsters.

By signing Panesar, both Rayner's and, in particular, Beer's development has been stymied this season. I am disappointed Ollie is not playing today, for example; for there is always the concern that one or even both of these youngsters will seek cricket employment elsewhere, if they don't get a fair bite at the cherry.

Re: ECB Unicorns vs Sussex 23rd May

Its a worry yes of course, but there are times this season when we have had to play an out of form Gatting because we were unable to take him out of the firing line because we had no obvious replacement. Also if we have serious championship aspirations, then Hoddy should not be batting in our top six. Anyway we are in danger of hijacking this thread, so back to the match where Luke has just taken the first Unicorns wicket.

Re: ECB Unicorns vs Sussex 23rd May

great batting performance from all of the top six at Arundel today ... and very nice to see joe getting a very very quick 50 , shame no radio coverage for us europeans .... never mind ... meant we have enjoyed a bit more of the sunshine here than we otherwise might have done...

yasir just gone for 12 off the sixth over ... and now 10 off Luke in the seventh ... we still need a half decent bowling performance ... kirtley now on .... another 4 !.... come on sussex!!

(worcestershire have started very well chasing 230+ at Bath , but slurrey will surely win against Lancs)

Re: ECB Unicorns vs Sussex 23rd May

Rapid start again by the Unicorns I think as this is the only format they play, they've managed to develop a game plan that will eventually give them some success.

Re: ECB Unicorns vs Sussex 23rd May

now its rmj´s turn : gone for 11 off the 9th over ... unicorns going at 8 an over ... come on sussex, i am off to put the barbq on ... a wicket or three please before its hot!

Re: ECB Unicorns vs Sussex 23rd May

123-2 after 17 overs. Could bein for another tough game with the Unicorns.

Re: ECB Unicorns vs Sussex 23rd May

thx yards ... just what we needed ... thompson gone lbw to yardy after 7 fours after the seamers and the last five overs of spin have gone for less than six an over ... they now need nearly nine an over off the next 23 overs!

wes durston hits monty for a four and a six off the 18th ... the bar b que isnt hot yet but we need another wicket please  ... another six off yards and he goes for ten off the 19th ... and the run rate needed is 8.80 with me off to the fridge to find a cool beer and the sausages ...sounds like a great game!! shame my dad isnt there to see it !!

Re: ECB Unicorns vs Sussex 23rd May

A similar fightback as the Hove game. Let's hope there is a similar batting collapse!  wink

Re: ECB Unicorns vs Sussex 23rd May

durston and knappett have now put on a 104 off 13 overs, still need 8.6 an over off the next 16 ...sausages on here now ... back later... rmj back on at arundel ...4 leg byes and 4 runs off his first two balls of the 25th over ! ...COME ON SUSSEX!!! we need a wicket!!!

we plough and sow and reap and mow

Re: ECB Unicorns vs Sussex 23rd May

I hope Robbo has a handy copy of the riot Act because he will need to read it to the bowlers after the game

Re: ECB Unicorns vs Sussex 23rd May

Just realised this would be a record 40 over chase!

Re: ECB Unicorns vs Sussex 23rd May

100 up for Durston 20 off the over.

Re: ECB Unicorns vs Sussex 23rd May

229-2. The wheels seem to be coming off the bus for us recently.

Re: ECB Unicorns vs Sussex 23rd May

Perhaps Yardy coming back isn't going to fix everything as many thought.
Perhaps our problems are alot deep than we realised.

Re: ECB Unicorns vs Sussex 23rd May

Thank God for that, still their game though.
