Re: Dilshan

might limit opportunity for Wells and Machan though...  sad

Re: Dilshan

BRILLIANT.

Re: Dilshan

wow. what a signing. this is a massive coup for the club.
you only have to talk to the kids at my local club about dilshan and you'll realise what an impact he has had on the game.
congratulations sussex - i am really looking forward to seeing him in action.

Re: Dilshan

He's definitely a quality signing.  I'm not sure how they'll balance the three of them, but good news all the same

Re: Dilshan

Excellant signing. Completely confsed as too who of the 3 o/s players signed for the tournament are available and when!

Any ideas anyone as too which 2 will represnt us and when?

Re: Dilshan

Fantastic news! And his wicket-keeping is on par with Hodd.

Interesting to note how the choice of a club's O/S 20/20 player is becoming more important than the championship and the money now being offered is so high that, in Middlesex's case, the MCC are having to contribute towards Adam Gilchrist's wages. It makes sound business sense given the extra numbers he will attract to the ground.

"Now the stumps have asked for pads!"
(Aussie radio commentator Kerry O'Keeffe as Rahul Dravid, bowled six times in seven innings during the present series, walks out to bat at the Adelaide Oval)

Re: Dilshan

Great 'Box Office signing', shows our intentions on retaining our T20 crown.
Completely out of the blue, good work by all involved.

Re: Dilshan

i think dilshan will play when dwayne's away for the first block of t20 matches. whether he stays on after that, i suppose it depends on his contract, the regulations and availability of the others.

but i maintain we can expect another overseas player at the start of the season if yasir is away at the t20 world cup.

Re: Dilshan

We made a £1.2 million profit

Sussex made £1464

This week Ashley says we cant sign a second O/S player for T20 because of Budget constraints.

And you sign Dilshan.  yikes

Brilliant news for Sussex and county cricket. Most exciting T20 player in the world IMO.

Even better than Ant Botha  yikes

Re: Dilshan

Tillakaratne Dilshan on YouTube

That'll be good enough to get the juices flowing.

From 2014 I have doubts that being a Sussex fan will continue to be the best sporting pleasure on the planet.

Re: Dilshan

The must have music at Hove on match nights.

Just add the words Tillakaratne Dilshan to the tune, works a treat.

"He will join up with Surrey at the start of the 2010 season and be available for the first three County Championship matches of the year against Derbyshire at the Brit Oval; away at Hove against Sussex and the festival match against Worcestershire at Whitgift School.
During this time, Piyush Chawla will be representing the Kings XI Punjab in the Indian Premier League".

It looks like we'll be seeing the new Surrey fast bowler at Hove next month.

Getting back to Dilshan..........
What a fantastic, exciting signing. I'm sure it will get the youngsters dragging their parents along to watch. It will also be an opportunity for our players to watch and learn how to execute the Dilscoop.
I must say that Brendan McCullum could give him a run for his money.

Well done Robbo, Brooksey et al.

Re: Dilshan

The media are picking up on the story, finally.

"Counties are allowed to sign up to four overseas players for the Twenty20 but only two can play in a match. A number of teams have dipped into the international market to secure big-name signings for the tournament with Shahid Afridi heading to Hampshire along with Abdul Razzaq, Adam Gilchrist joining Middlesex and Cameron White going to Somerset."

So, if Arafat is away on International duty, both Dwayne and Dilshan 'could' play in the same 20/20 match. And there is still room for another O/S signing or does Goodwin already fill that post?

Who's Al?

It's Dilshan's nickname.

His favourite song is You Can Call Me Al by Paul Simon.

True story.

Re: Dilshan

Argus......Dilshan, 33, is a superb right handed bat, an electric fielder, can keep wicket and bowls useful off-spin.
He is recently famous for inventing an astonishing flick-shot over his head. The shot became known as ‘The Dilscoop’ and helped him to win the Player-of-the-Series award at the World Twenty20 Cup in 2009.

....we have the option of playing him as a keeper also

Re: Dilshan

great signing (hes a very good fielder by the way and not a totally rubbish bowler either) - he will be really exciting to watch in the 20/20 -  I am a bit unclear about how much he will play though with Yasir and Dwayne also around for at least some of the time

Re: Dilshan

A big signing

On the negative..... it restricts a home grown batsman's progress.

On the positive.... In your face surrey!!!!!
