Re: England Players Resting Periods

So in terms of preparation and bonding or is it binding for the World T20 we have :

England men's ICC World T20 squad
Paul Collingwood (captain, Durham) - IPL to WI direct
James Anderson (Lancashire) - playing for Lancs
Ravi Bopara (Essex) - ? IPL
Tim Bresnan (Yorkshire) - playing for Yorks
Stuart Broad (Nottinghamshire) - playing for Notts
Craig Kieswetter (wicketkeeper, Somerset) - playing for Somerset
Michael Lumb (Hampshire) - ? IPL
Eoin Morgan (Middlesex) - IPL
Kevin Pietersen (Hampshire) - IPL
Ajmal Shahzad (Yorkshire) - playing for Yorks
Ryan Sidebottom (Nottinghamshire)
Graeme Swann (Nottinghamshire)
James Tredwell (Kent)
Luke Wright (Sussex)
Michael Yardy (Sussex)

Morgan and KP IPL teams are still in the competition - not sure whether Bopara and Lumb are back in the UK or travelling direct from India to the  WI ?

Re: England Players Resting Periods

the EcB are gain showing they are a complete bunch of idiots .

Words fail me. 5 can play CC,5 cannot , 5 can play in India until Sunday . And if the volcanic ash continues they may not even get there.

Re: England Players Resting Periods

Clowns to the left of me, jokers to the right A complete and utter farce

Re: England Players Resting Periods

update to 3rdmans list

tredwell is being forced to play against his will....

"James Tredwell is a surprise inclusion in the Kent team for the first LV= County Championship Division 1 four-day home game of the season against leaders Yorkshire starting at Canterbury on Wednesday.

The 28-year-old England spinner was due to miss the game before linking up with the rest of the England World Twenty20 squad, before flying to the West Indies later this week.

However the delays caused by the volcano in Iceland mean they won’t now leave until Sunday, so the ECB have given Tredwell and Yorkshire pair Tim Bresnan and Ajmal Shahzad the go-ahead to play."

i mean how could you possible explain the rationale behind who plays and who "rests"?

Simple...it's mostly down to the players themselves.

whilst i obviously respect your sage like wisdom i'd rather you shared my righteous indignation, which is easier to direct against Andy Flower, ECB, Gordon Brown etc. rather than my heroes.

i shant be taking down my photo of luke wright from the bedroom wall until i see him quoted in argus saying he didnt want to play

Re: England Players Resting Periods

lol

club...sometimes its best to keep your head firmly planted in the sand, and there is nothing wrong with that. I STILL think that Tiger was viciously assaulted and raped by those 18 women...

Re: England Players Resting Periods

Now, if only I could have thought up that reply to Crowie, I'd be feeling so pleased with myself.

From 2014 I have doubts that being a Sussex fan will continue to be the best sporting pleasure on the planet.

Re: England Players Resting Periods

club303's had a night out on the White Lightning again I see  wink

Re: England Players Resting Periods

BT says Wrighty request to play turned down - asked to focus on "white ball skills in Loughborough". Not sure about Yards.

Re: England Players Resting Periods

BT says Yards wanted to focus on his twenty20 skillset this week, so was never going to be playing at Gloucs. Completely understandable decision by the skipper given the opportunity he had earned himself.

Gotta do that at luffbra because in Windies very few of the players have white balls to concentrate on

Isn't it a bit early to be on the rum TC?

Following the Gloucestershire match is stressful...I only drink to steady myself...sometimes I get so steady I dont move for days.

Re: England Players Resting Periods

Haha, that is steady - indeed too steady to focus on ball skills of any type!

Re: England Players Resting Periods

just seen robbo's post match interview after northants defeat on sussex tv.

bombshell dropped - robbo has been told that Yards and Luke must attend a reception at downing street on Monday, which is 1st day of Worcs game. therefore we will have to field 2 substitutes on Monday.

absolutely ridiculous

Re: England Players Resting Periods

ffs, why on Earth would you want to meet David Cameron than play against Worcs? We need them more than he does. Anyway, hasn't Mr. Cameron got a lot of work to do?

Murray Goodwin is my God.

Re: England Players Resting Periods

One can only hope Sussex field first!

"Now the stumps have asked for pads!"
(Aussie radio commentator Kerry O'Keeffe as Rahul Dravid, bowled six times in seven innings during the present series, walks out to bat at the Adelaide Oval)

Re: England Players Resting Periods

England's demands are truly becoming beyond ridiculous. First Monty's call up for a farcicle fixture, then this Downing street hoo-hah. For goodness sake Robbo and England, enough is enough.

Re: England Players Resting Periods

bin thinking about this during the afternoon and i think it shows a real lack of respect for the integrity of the game.

no problem with the players getting the recognition. england womens team had a reception last year and im sure it will be a great experience.

but imagine if this was football and the reception was planned to be held on a saturday afternoon depriving some of the premiership clubs of their players. it just would never happen.

plus mixing politics and sport is just one big media spin-doctoring propaganda type event, used by politicians to look good by association.  shane warne had it right about the MBEs the 2005 Ashes winning side all got. he reckoned Collingwood should hand his back as he only played one test and got diddly-sqwat runs. this current england side has just won the only ever world one-day tournament so should they now get MBEs?

Re: England Players Resting Periods

I can't find any info about this meeting via google. I am presuming the reception must be during the day (even more stupid and disrespectful) and not the evening. Otherwise, Yardy and Wright could train it up from Brighton Station after Monday's close of play.

Re: England Players Resting Periods

I think Mr Cameron and co are quite busy so it's more a case of them fitting it in whenever they can.  There probably hasn't been a single day since the start of the season where no team has played so whatever day they pick then you're likely to screw someone.  Just be proud that a couple of Sussex players are going to Downing Street as world champions.

Re: England Players Resting Periods

sorry dave i cant agree. this is simply political PR. not sure how long the reception takes - maybe half an hour or an hour of meet/greet. bit of a wander round the garden and some photos. presumably at a time to ensure that all tomorrows news bulletins will be able to cover it.

take Tredwell from kent. Kent played Scotland on Saturday and play Durham at Riverside tomorrow. So it is likely Kent will have stayed up north. So tredwell has to make a return trip to the Riverside. madness

Surely a much more sensible option would have been for Cameron to pop down to Lords during the 1st test this week and to shake a few hands and say well done to Andy Flower and squad. Or for the members of the squad who were availabe to pop over to Downing street during one of the evenings.

Re: England Players Resting Periods

Not sure about popping down to Lords because quite a few T20 players aren't in the Test lineup. Have to agree that the PM invitation shouldn't impinge on the players playing schedules and if it does they shouldn't go.

All this showboating started with Blair and that f***ing "cool brittania" and has been copied by Brown and Cameron, none of whom have any interest in cricket unlike John Major where players would know the reception was meaningful.

Anyway, you lot shouldn't be talking politics should you, so no more posts on this please.

Re: England Players Resting Periods

thats pretty much how i see it tiptoes. im not really on about politics just having a good old moan about losing two of our players for the 1st day of a game after they've just missed the last 4.

but i do feel strongly that there is a lack of respect and integrity at the heart of the matter both from Downing St and the ECB. like i said there would be no chance of footballers missing scheduled games. plus if monday is the only available day then the ECB should have sent the players who weren't playing.

anyway, like i say, im just having a moan. todays defeat hasnt helped the mood either
