Re: McCullum
Great 2020 signing but interestingly no mention of him possibly relegating Ben Brown to 4th choice stumper. I don't actually think he will take the gloves but can you imagine the furor on here had a spinner been signed.

"McCullum, who is currently playing for Kolkata Knight Riders in the IPL, will share the second overseas player role with Smith and is expected to be available for seven t20 games in the middle of June."
Shame only seven games
Ardcarran,
This is what Brooksy wrote last night, "We are very grateful to NZC for allowing his release in the middle of a very nusy period, and also Mrs McCullum who is due to give birth in mid July ! I suspect I may like my husband within 10,000 miles of home for such a marvellous event . ."
Therefore, McCullum will be flying home in July to attend the birth. So, the wonder of nature has decided how many matches McCullum will be available for. But, there are 12 T20 matches in June, so where does the 7 games come from and why is he only joining in mid-June?
Given the NZ/Zimbabwe tour has been cancelled, why isn't McCullum available for the first T20 on June 1st? Still, more questions than answers.

Don't get this at all... Your saying you think he won't keep wicket, which I think he won't, but just incase he did your thinking of a strange, hypothetical, negative scenario?
You've made your feelings clear about an extra batter Jonboy and this one is only for t20 but I think it's an amazing, marquee signing - is there any t20 side in the world that would not want McCullum playing for them?
Bid D I think the clue is in the word Great. I have no problems with this excellent signing. I merely mused what peoples reaction may have been had a spinner been signed. Do you remember the fuss last year when Chawla was preferred to Beer?
Jonboy, I don't expect McCullum to keep wicket and Prior will probably miss Twenty20 competition because of his England commitments. So Brown / Hodd will keep wicket.
Sharkey,
Surely, if Hodd or Brown are scoring a load of runs choose them as keeper and have McCullum as the specialist batsman. If not, and Prior isn't available, drop them both and get Brendan to keep wicket, instead. We need our strongest team to regain the T20 trophy.
Friday's Argus report stated McCullum will only be available for 7 matches during mid-june, anyway.
S&F - McCullum is only available for 7 matches and so I think he will play as a specialist batsman only. We may be under instructions from New Zealand board not to give him the gloves.
Thanks for the free advertising (assuming it was free - perhaps they nailed us for it)
he didnt have a very good World cup did he - although slightly better than Dilshan

I was slightly disappointed, but I still think he will dazzle down at Hove (hopefully).
On a very slow low wicket in south Florida, I've just seem McCullum hit the first international six on American soil.
Here's hoping there's many more to follow in June/July and more than just seven matches.
A couple of years ago McCullum was leading the way in 20/20 batting, but in recent times seems to have gone off the boil. Would Durston actually do a worse job?
I don't think so silas, just a couple of months ago he hit a T20I 100 against the Aussies. But you are right that he never really shone in the T20 world cup. Maybe he is saving it for us. ![]()

Don't think Durston would sell so many tickets.
Poor McCullum, damned before he starts. We know how to welcome people with open arms at this very friendly club, don't we. ![]()
well i am really looking forward to watching Mccullum bat and im sure he will be a real asset to our 20/20 campaign
p.s re Durston - he can bat for the Unicorns with absolutely no pressure on him (no-one cares if he fails and theres no pressure on his contract being renewed), as can the rest of the team - this makes them dangerous opponents, but might not necessarily mean they can handle the pressure of expectation if they played for a county team

Exactly. We're talking about 29 year old who was released because he couldn't cement a first team place at Somerset despite being on the staff for nine years.

So Durston failed to cement his place, but didn't suffer from lack of opportunity. Closer to home, do you think after 4 years Rayner has suffered from lack of opportunity or failed to cement his place?

whats this got to do with the topic of McCullum ??
Fantastic knock by McCullum today for New Zealand - congratulations.
Really hope he will be back for T20 next year.
