I think we may have an interesting story developing here. KP has burnt his bridges with Hampshire and stated that the travelling down the M3 from Chelsea to Southampton is too much for him.
He's indicated that he wants to play in London which obviously means either Middlesex or Surrey.
Surrey have said that they aren't interested in KP, and Gus Fraser hasn't shown an public interest in signing him on at Middlesex.
Journalist Paul Newman wrote on 12th August in his Mail Online column:
The Kevin Pietersen county plot thickens. England make him available for Twenty20 finals day, then Hampshire say no thanks.
Fair enough, but it’s what comes next that is fascinating. Andy Flower says KP must join another county next season as a condition of his central contract even though he would rarely be available. Middlesex are said to have cooled on the idea of signing him, which may create a problem as Pietersen said he wants to leave Hampshire because he lives in Chelsea. He can hardly sign for Durham after saying that.
Could Surrey stretch to signing both Pietersen and Eoin Morgan? Or is he heading for ‘homeless’ status and conflict with England? I can’t see why he cannot be ‘unattached’ and seconded to a county when he needs practice.
If this is true and neither Surrey or Middlesex are interested I would imagine next in line for consideration would be joining Sussex. With his England contract he would arrive free of charge and play a few one day games for us as well as posing for a few posters.
Is anyone prepared to offer any odds on KP being in a Sussex shirt for our team photo next April?
Should he need a taxi I'm sure Xian44 would be happy to run him over. Sorry, I meant run him home!
Chelsea to The Rosebowl on the AA route planner is 1 hour 42 mins (77.7 miles)
Chelsea to Hove on the AA route planner is 1 hr 30 mins (52.1 miles).
At least that would give him an extra 24 minutes each day.
Does anyone have any ideas how he might use that time?
From 2014 I have doubts that being a Sussex fan will continue to be the best sporting pleasure on the planet.
