Re: CC Leics vs Sussex 27July

Disappointed to see Rayner not selected and an abudance of seamers. Batting has been weakened. Perahps Wright is unable to bowl? Otherwise why do we need Aga,Yasir,Collymore & Hatchett? At least Aga has an opportunity to show what we can do.

I do find the selection/non-slection of Rayner baffling at the moment. He is potentially are most improved player this season.

Re: CC Leics vs Sussex 27July

Would imagine Hodd has an injury of some sort as Brown was not in the squad of 15.

Is this showing forward thinking by Robbo for next season with Aga and Hatchett playing, when Anyon is reported as fit

Re: CC Leics vs Sussex 27July

Also the position over Brown, has this been pushed more to the front?  This time last year Matt was virtually 1st choice in test and ODI's, so we could all see him being away a lot.

This season Matt has lost that ODI place, at the moment, so more time back at Sussex - and proving he can play one dayers (score wise).  If however they were to test Keiswetter with a test place - can see both Matt and Keiswetter going to Australia, then Robbo could have three very good keepers to keep happy and not just the two as was originally planned

I was disappointed as well, but what are the conditions like, Leicester seem to be struggling to get runs, so may be favouring the seamers the next few days.

If it does start to turn then it may force the skipper to bowl, and we always have Nasher

Re: CC Leics vs Sussex 27July

Hatchett gets Jefferson LBW

27/1 off ten

Re: CC Leics vs Sussex 27July

(England 44/1 Cook has gone)

Re: CC Leics vs Sussex 27July

I am glad that rags has got a start if only stopping me calling for his inclusion in the team i did feel that he would have a chance when RMJ my lord retired now its him up to him to nail his place in the team and show hes good enough and has  the tempremant to suceed at 1st class level, because i believe this is probably the only chance at sussex he will get so do it and prove it rags.
Also good to see robbo being rewarded before lunch on the first day for leaving LW in the team that will really boost his belief and confidence in himself, just another plus for all of us but this is proper cricket.

Re: CC Leics vs Sussex 27July

It does seem a bit of a lop-sided selection, but the proof of the pudding and all that jazz.  Yassy breaks the crucial partnership of Taylor and Ronald

Now in the 44th over and no sign of Monty, so is it seamer friendly - if so why have they only taken 5 wickets so far

Re: CC Leics vs Sussex 27July

45th over Monty comes on and takes a wicket

Re: CC Leics vs Sussex 27July

good work bexhillshark as the Bexhill spin meastro strikes in first over

Re: CC Leics vs Sussex 27July

Another bowling point....183/6

Re: CC Leics vs Sussex 27July

My first thought at seeing the side was of confusion.  Brown in, when he wasn't in the squad and six bowlers and a batsman light.  Very lop-sided.

I guess Hodd must have got injured, I'm pleased Brown's in anyway.  Wright must be in as a batsman only cos you surely don't need six bowlers in any conditions.

I feel for Rayner and Thornely but at least Hatch is in.  Our batting looks weak though, I'd have gone with four bowlers, Thornely in for Aga but we'll see.

Re: CC Leics vs Sussex 27July

193/7 another one for Hatchett smile

Re: CC Leics vs Sussex 27July

Two wickets in two balls for Hatch, on a hatch trick lol

Re: CC Leics vs Sussex 27July

Great stuff!  He's 20, and he's taking wickets - it must be a miracle!  Get Wells in and watch him crack a ton!

Re: CC Leics vs Sussex 27July

All out for 204 Lewis Hatchett 5-47

WELL DONE LEWIS smile  smile  smile

Re: CC Leics vs Sussex 27July

Another success for Sussex's selection policy. Play them when they are ready, not just blindly because they are young or went to the right school.

Re: CC Leics vs Sussex 27July

Great effort by Hatchett a 5 for in only his 2nd CC match.

Re: CC Leics vs Sussex 27July

Great start to a promising career I hope for Hatch.  Probably earnt himself a professional contract today.  I say get the best one of the other three in before the season's out, see what they do.

It's early days but this is the sort of thing a few of us have been pushing for - try your grads before looking outside, they may make match winning contributions.

Re: CC Leics vs Sussex 27July

Here we go Yardy has gone 2/1 sad

Re: CC Leics vs Sussex 27July

Agreed in principle RF, but its a fine line between sucess and failure.
Look at all the angry posts because we lost on Monday night.
I think even more than ever, we have to trust the coaching staff, they see and work with the youngsters every day, and they seem to know if they are ready or not.
As today has proved. smile
