Topic: Eng v Pakistan test series

Well this has started today, I believe its a 4 match series and I think could be interesting - Pakistan have some decent bowlers and a fragile batting line-up, whilst England look strong batting but not so strong in their bowling - these series always seem to have some sort of controversy as well !

Re: Eng v Pakistan test series

Am about an hour behind watching recorded sky. The ball is moving almost every delivery and we have been a bit lucky.

The bowlers will be cursing the decision to bat. I think we would have had them in a lot of trouble had we bowled.

Re: Eng v Pakistan test series

I think we have a strong bowling line-up SS - except there being only four of them, which I doubt will do against a side who can bat a bit.  But Anderson, Finn, Broad and Swann - good as any.

Probably no better than their four guys though, impressive bowlers.  I particularly like the young lad and Kaneria.  The difference will be in the batting, for that reason I think we'll win 3-1, no draws.

It would be pretty even though if they had Younus and the artist formely known as Youhana.  I think Morgan will cement his place in the side in this series, which could spell the end for Trott or Collingwood, sooner rather than later.

Just catching up on the highlights, great way to bring up your first test century by Morgan!  big_smile

Re: Eng v Pakistan test series

Without doubt (one of) the worst wicket-keeping performances I have ever seen in a Test Match!

Couldn't call myself a stick insect but now going in the right direction!

Re: Eng v Pakistan test series

Oh dear, another side that can't cope with typical English Conditions!

Re: Eng v Pakistan test series

Not sure where you get the end of Collingwood from RF, I would have thought these days he's first name on the hymn sheet!!

Yes Insurance Man, I found that a bit strange too!

Re: Eng v Pakistan test series

Well, we're good these days so good players have to be even better.  If we play five bowlers someone will have to go, doubt it will be Morgan.  My bet would be Colly or Trott is all.

Re: Eng v Pakistan test series

Bumble is evil. Commentating with Warne and when Collingwood came to the crease introduced him as Paul Collingwood MBE.

Re: Eng v Pakistan test series

England establishing a huge lead - Prior doing well but has the tail with him now so very little chance of getting his Century - will he just go for his shots now or wait for the 9th wicket to fall?

Re: Eng v Pakistan test series

Prior now on 91 has starting hitting sixes - just after the Physio has come on....

Century and declaration?

Was on 12 after 36 balls, so added 90 in the next 100.

Re: Eng v Pakistan test series

You'll all be delighted to know that Matt's century was celebrated by a hearty, if drunken, solo rendition of GOSBTS from the New Stand. I'm sure it made his day.

WHAT IS THE POINT  roll

Who is that man talking to Schlidd ?

Re: Eng v Pakistan test series

Also, the 1/2 ground is not full, TMS had a job to find a Pakistan supporter to interview, hardly any there apparently, and it looks like the game will hardly last 3 days.
Bet Warwickshire are pulling their hair out after winning the bidding process to stage this match.
Alec Stewart on TMS said Surrey were struggling to sell out the Oval.

Any comments Kim?

Re: Eng v Pakistan test series

Aggers is very critical of all the money being spent by the Test grounds. As he says on TMS, the main 'Hollies Stand' is not even half full today; usually it's heaving during a Test match. Like Yorkshire, due to the bidding process, Warwickshire will lose a lot of money on this Test, especially if it lasts barely 3 days. Sadly, another financial disaster which only increases the overall cricket debt.

And who is to blame but the ECB. They must ditch this bidding process immediately and only use it for the 'Ashes' series. By continuing to implement it, the Test grounds will just lose even more money.

Pakistan all out for 72. Their lowest Test total against England. Oh dear.  roll

Re: Eng v Pakistan test series

strange how inept Pakistan are, considering they have just beaten the Aussies - turning out to be a very poor series this one

Re: Eng v Pakistan test series

Pakistan should hang their heads in shame. Do they really want to be here? Credit to England though. Just makes for a very dull test match.

Re: Eng v Pakistan test series

I've been asked to take someone to Lords for day one of the England v Pakistan test match. Tickets for the Mound Stand are £90 each and tickets in the Grandstand (square of the wicket) are £100. Funnily enough there are plenty available.

I was also asked by a mate if I wanted to go to the Saturday of the Oval test match. When I found out it was day 4 of the match I decided to hang on to my money.

From 2014 I have doubts that being a Sussex fan will continue to be the best sporting pleasure on the planet.

Re: Eng v Pakistan test series

Poor performances and badly timed series...Guess the Pakistanis are distracted by

1.Upheaval in cricket selection, suspensions, fines and general disarray of the board affecting their futures

2.Ongoing terrorism that prevents them playing at home

3.Diplomatic row with Uk PM accusing Pakistan of aiding the Taliban

4.Natural disaster in Pakistan with thousands killed and 12 million affected by massive floods

Given such circumstanes how would Harmy and Tresco perform in Karachi?

Re: Eng v Pakistan test series

tc,

I believe that is only part of the problem. As discussed on TMS and other cricket media, interest in Pakistan Test cricket is rapidly waning as T20 takes hold in Asia.

I have been appalled at the lack of interest in both the Australian and now this Test series in England by the Pakistan fans. Yesterday, barely "a handful" attended the first day's play at Edgbaston; and why Yorkshire lost £750,000; and why also both Notts and Warwickshire have and will lose money on hosting recent Pakistan matches.

I'm sure the T20 and 50 ODIs will attract more supporters. Quite frankly, Test cricket in Pakistan is dying; where the only games that attract full houses are those against India.
