Joe Denly could be interesting, hardly moves away from our gung ho approach at times though does it...
Maybe Kent and Surrey should merge. Become Curry and play in the IPL. Would save rory the hassle of developing his batting skills for 4 day cricket.
Actually it is very sad. Someone asked where Jones is going I would say he is leaving .
Would we want any of their batsmen .Rob Key is still a good bat .
joe denly looks an interesting option, good youngster who we could improve and all that.
Well I would suggest a takeover bid....
Proposal to merge mermerships clubs, headquartered at Hove with Sussex management and staff, then rationalise playing staff and outgrounds.Liquidate the Kent legal entity
Key maybe wishing he didn't turn down Surrey. Not that a contract will stop Surrey going back. What the hell has happened to Kent, how has is come to letting anyone go if they please?
I don't wanna jump on their throats but Denly could be an interesting signing. Oh, I've done it anyway, sorry Kent.
This is desperate news and has the chilling ring of a bank putting the squeeze on before an administrator does it for them. I hope we are not seeing the first county going to the wall.

Key would be the opener we are after, and could hold the reigns when Yards is away.

That would make sense with Joyce reverting to three. Ironic if we sign Surrey's first choice as captain, the man who knocked them back. He needn't bring his sandpaper though. ![]()
Just had agood read of their messageboard . what depressing reading .I do not like Kent
but do feel sorry for them .They are in a financial mess and the ground development is on hold ie Hotel and houses are planned .
Key is due a benefit next season and Van J in 2012 but they are on hugh contracts which Kent cannot really afford .Denly's contract runs out next season and they expect him to go then if not this winter. No comment about Stevens going .
Amjad was not offered a contract because of their poor finances and did not want to leave . He appears popular.
If Key, Van Jaarsveld or Stevens leave Kent it will be for Surrey. I know they are after the last two.
It's also interesting to read that many on the Kent forum aren't too impressed with David Fulton who according to his website represents 5 Sussex players this season and also Amjad Khan amongst others.
Denly would be a good signing given his age. This isn't that surprising. I have a friend who is a Kent Member and for a few years now I've said to him that Kent remind me of Sussex's committee circa and pre-1997. They haven't been able to hold on to good players and have dealt with them badly much as Sussex did with Alan Wells. The hotel being bungled has really hit them as well. They have a healthy support and you would think someone with a bit of money could come in and sort out their problems. I think they need a committee revolution. It is sad and I hope they can recover from this.
Our seam attack isn't potent enough for the first division, so yes I think we do need a bowler like Amjad. Further more, if possible I'd pair him with an overseas player like Amir, thats a pairing that could give us a real cutting edge in the top flight. I just don't believe Arafat is capable of taking 60 wickets in the top division and what we need from our OS is an ability to blast out the opposition top order. Now heres a wild card, while we're shopping in Kent, I'd take Mahmood on a years contract. Short term he could easily do the job Arafat does now, cover for Wright when he's away and generally buy us time until Adkin comes through. The main advantage though would be that it frees up the overseas birth for us to bring in a proper strike bowler.
Hi Sussex people.
Being a Kent supporter, I feel I've aged about 10yrs in the last 2 seasons! The Club is in a sorry state financially. We have not offered a contract to Amjad as we cannot afford him! A comment from a local Journo writing in a Kent sports paper is wondering where that leaves Key and Van Jarre? We paid a high price to keep them away from Surrey's clutches last year. I have felt since the start of the season that we could be the first county to go into administration. Finances have not been healthy for 2-3 yrs now. We sold a painting to get us out of debt and "secure our future" 2 seasons ago. Now we are £800,000 + in debt. Our T20 takings were down and were not what they were expected to be(Mind you I'm not surprised at £25 a match!)
All very sad. I really hope it doesn't happen to the second best county in the South of England. You seem to have got over any "off field problems" a few years ago. I may be seeing more of Sussex next year! Hope all goes well with your promotion into Div 1. I hope we won't be coming in the opposirte direction as I miss the Kent V Sussex fixture at Tun Wells!
...aslo it is now wonder you are financially in trouble with the four day game entrance at £20 a time. That has got to be the dearest of all the counties as is your score card price at £1 a time.....crazy
thanks longleg for a very informative and generous post - i think we can all sympathise with your plight with a bit of "there but for the grace of god, go I" thrown in

As much as I dislike Kent, I would not wish there current plight on any county. I hope it all works out for you longleg.
DVLangford I totally agree! £20 a day is ridiculous! Kent felt that was the best way of getting finances in! A friend of mine was at Kent V Warks at start of season. He saw a carful of Warks supporters do an about turn when they were going to be charged £90 for 1 days Championship cricket!
I received a great message from Amjad earlier and in it he pointed out it was not his decision to leave. So, I really hope you guys sign him(I believe in healthy rivalry, as long as we beat the "Northern lot" & Surrey!) For those worrying about his injuries this year, he is back and bowling really well. He's been rested by Kent a lot this year as he is our only quality strike bowler! He would be a good signing and I'm sure he would do the Bizz for you!
I have no issues with Kent...always disliked Surrey and Hampshire(Warne) but wish Kent the best.Actually a full merger with Sussex is not such s crazy idea...but guess thats a bridge too far for the majority of members.
But think of the savings in Admin and playing staff.
I have no problem with Kent either as our magnificent captain, chief exec and me were all born there! Sussex and Kent certainly have more in common than our grotesque neighbours, in terms of values and also history. I thought it was great when Rob Key and Van Jarsveld both rejected Slurrey, proving that there is still some integrity left in the game.

Interesting - does that mean he is usually played alongside three other seamers, because he can't bowl long spells? Or were you talking about resting for whole games? If the former will have implications for our side e.g. opportunities for a second spinner.
Sad about Kent, although I still can't forgive what their capt said in 2003 that we didn't deserve the title. G*t

Amjad has not played many 1 day or T20 games this year. He's been mainly used in Championship games. At the start of the season we had a good pair of opening bowlers Ammy & Ntini. When Ntini returned, we just had Amjad who can bowl with real pace.(Though young Matt Coles has been outstanding in his 1st season.) In the past Kent have had a bit of a habit of flogging their bowlers. Geoff Arnold was our bowling coach on an adhoc basis and this crazy practice seems to have come to a stop with him around. Although with injuries to Robbie Joseph, Dewald Nel and azhar on a play and pay contract and not getting any younger. We've been a little thin on the ground! Matt Coles took 4wkts today as we beat Hampshire. Am going to keep quiet on that one lest Mr Adams come sniffing at his door!!!!
