Topic: Owais Shah
Lots of talk in the Morgan thread, but I think Owais deserves a thread of his own.
Quality batsman and I think we could get him fit. Could he be a big run scorer for us for the next 8 to 10 years?

how does he get on with yootha?
Much as I'd love to see him join Sussex, it is expected that he will join Essex.
Middlesex don't deserve the loyalty of their players. To tip off the press before speaking to Shah about releasing him was thoroughly odious. Shame on Angus Fraser, and good luck to Shah wherever he goes.
i'd love him, always disliked him as a player - he gave us two fingers at Lords once, for some caustic banter going his way - but my dislike was based around his dangerous ability to single handedly switch a game - " a change is as good as a rest " Think he'd be brilliant for us - shouldn't be to expensive 31 n all that, last chance saloon - no possible Eng call ups....could play for Pakistan though hahah.....Essex must be broke after spunking up that stupid money for Bravo inthe 20/20 Final double hahahah - .
though I acknowledge the point made by Mike by the sea - maybe previous with Joycie and I wouldnt NOT want to upset our Premier Man
Then again, if him and Joyce were mates at Middlesex then who better to sell Sussex to Shah than Ed?
If everything stacks up I'd be delighted to see him in a Sussex shirt
Can you imagine Owais Shah and Mike Yardy running between the wickets?
Owais would fill that gap we seem to have towards the top, particularly in div 1 next season, and he would also have a few more seasons left in him than Murray, so when Murray has to call it a day, we have someone who can fill that role, by which time some of the younger batsmen would be in the team
I would welcome him if he wanted to come here, and if he wanted Div 1 and not Div 2 if he wet to Essex
i agree - providing he gets on with yootha.
i seem to think yootha had problems with some of the senior players at middlesex ?
cant imagine Ed Joyce having problems with other teammates to be honest - seems very laidback - he may have not enjoyed the captaincy
The problems at Middlesex were with Ed Smith I believe.
so maybe we are in with a serious shout?!?!?
I think someone like Shah would be able to demand serious wages which puts us slightly at a disadvantage. I think he's big mates with Bopara so it will probably be down to Essex or Surrey, if they offer more money. He would be a good solution to the Goodwin retirement problem though
how come Essex have got any money?
Wide boys??
Why are Middlesex releasing him? What a rotten 18 months for him. Quality player, perfect replacement for Muzz.
Why did he fall out of favour with England's one day side? Fair enough in tests, but his one day record is good - averages of 31, 37 in last 20 games

I love watching Shah bat, and always wanted England to pick him, but then I always felt his nerve was likely to let him down at the crucial moment. When he got his 90-odd against South Africa last winter, majestically as he'd played, I was sure he'd miss out on his hundred.
I don't think his face fitted with this England regime and when they picked him for the WI tests it almost felt like they were giving him a run because they knew they had to, just so they could say you've had your chance, and you didn't quite take it.
I don't think his fielding is good enough to play in the current England set up, but assuming he's not a bad apple I'd love him to replace Goodwin. His wide boy swagger seems a better fit with Essex though?
Shah would not help with our run out problem.
Dimwit Mascheranus said on Twitter today that he'd love Shah to go there...
if it is a bidding war we will probably miss out. not the end of the world ...
He will surely demand a big wage - out of our league when the likes of Hants and Surrey like him. I can see the Goodwin replacement thing but, you guessed it, we should go with the youth on that one. Look how good Brown looks! And Wells has done at least as good as him in the seconds - try them for Christ's sake!
No thanks Shah, learn to run en all mate!

If any of our youngsters turn out as good as Goodwin they'll be playing for England in an instant. Shah has no prospects of being picked again, but I can't see him choosing Hove over one of the Test counties or Essex
I have no doubt Shah would choose Sussex. It's a place where many players would like to come. It's a great part of the country, the team are very professional in their approach and we win trophies regularly.
However the kitty is limited and I'm sure Robbo's priority would be to try and find a way of boosting our bowling attack.
Because of Shah's likely lack of international call-ups he will be a great signing for someone.

But are we 'supreme' enough for him?
Yesterday at Chelmsford an Essex fan standin next to me asked him if he'd be playing for them next year and he said 'he hoped so', so take from that what you will.
From what I've heard over the last few days Shah to Essex is a done deal.
