Sussex Cricket Roadshow

“This is your chance to be a part of the extremely successful RDF Cricket Roadshow.  Come and join Sussex County Cricket Club and take part in the exciting opportunities that we offer.  This year the Roadshow will reach over 8,000 children and this number is constantly rising.  So far, we have visited schools, Cricket clubs and youth clubs, giving children and young people a chance not only to play Cricket, but to participate and enjoy the game on many different levels.  With free giveaways and prizes to be won at every RDF Roadshow, this will once again be a huge success for the whole county.”

Tim Marks, Community Liaison Officer

AimThe official opening of the RDF Roadshow in April

The’ Sussex CCC RDF Roadshow’ aims to reach children from all across Sussex and from a variety of Socio – economic and ethnic backgrounds. By visiting schools and youth clubs as well as utilising existing participation initiatives and festivals, the roadshow will engage kids in many different interactive cricket experiences with the help of county community coaches and professional players.

We want the kids to get involved in the game and involved in the county club, therefore we aim to make each type of show a fully interactive experience between the kids, the sport and Sussex CCC. There are four ways in which we are approaching the shows:

  • From the point of view of the kids; we want them to throw themselves into the roadshow, have a great time and excite them about the game and make them leave the show wanting more cricket.
  • As a club: we want to get more kids down to the County ground watching matches throughout the season, joining the club as members, visiting the shop, looking on the web site and basically joining in with the club and everything that goes with it.
  • To bridge the gap between the schools and youth clubs at which the kids are attending and the local clubs offering colt cricket: We want to get kids playing competitive Cricket in local clubs building up the squads and inevitably increasing the standard of Cricket across the County. We also want to bring competitive and regular inter school Cricket to the schools across Sussex, and will use the roadshow as a strong starting point.
  • To ensure participation opportunities are available to all children and young people in Sussex: Due to the incapacity of many of the focus clubs in Sussex being able to take on more kids in their colts sections, the roadshow aims to provide competitive cricket through different means whilst Sussex CCC and league clubs submit volunteer proposals and funding applications for improved facilities.
  • We want as many children as possible enthused about Sussex CCC and Cricket as a whole. Feedback from last year’s roadshow tells us that as well as the activity based events, assembly visits also proved incredibly successful.

We are aiming to showcase the RDF Roadshow to in excess of 10,000 kids across the county, Due to the variety of different events this year, the roadshow can reach those in the county who are for one reason or another disadvantaged, as well as giving Sussex CCC and cricket in general a more accessible image and facilitating the chance to fulfil this with sustainability and longevity.
