2ND XI: Comfortable victory over Warwickshire Pilgrims27-Jun-2012
Sussex’s Second Eleven were back in action yesterday at the Saffrons Ground in Eastbourne and were victorious by a comfortable 113 runs over their visitors Warwickshire Pilgrims in a 40-over friendly.
The hosts didn’t have it all their own way though and after being inserted to bat by the Midlanders, were reduced to 10 for 4 and later 82 for 8 before the lower order propelled Sussex to a respectable score of 165 all out.
Matthew Hobden (pictured) of the SCCC Academy Plus, batting at number ten, was by far the top-scorer in the innings as his 44-ball 51 included four fours and three sixes. He was well supported by John Glover (26) whilst earlier in the innings Michael Rippon (25) was the only member of the top order to make double figures.
Sussex’s bowling performance though was much more pleasing as they shot out their visitors for only 52. There were two wickets apiece for Lewis Hatchett, Glover, Hobden and Rippon whilst Will Adkin and Josh Hayward also grabbed a victim each.
The Second Eleven are once again in action on Monday and they’re back at The PROBIZ County Ground, Hove for a Second Eleven Trophy clash against Gloucestershire (12.00pm) and entrance is FREE.
