2ND XI: Matt finish as Machan stars at Horsham14-Aug-2012
Sussex’s Second Eleven stormed to a six-wicket victory over Hampshire yesterday at Horsham in the Second Eleven Trophy competition, with Matt Machan playing a starring role.
After the visitors had won the toss they were restricted to 188 all out as they were dismissed two balls shy of their 40 overs. Will Adkin did the main damage with the ball, taking 4 for 21 from his 8 overs whilst Will Beer claimed 3 for 34 with his leg-spin.
In reply, Sussex timed their chase perfectly as they reached their target with two overs to go. Machan (pictured) led the innings with his knock of 95, which took 116 balls and included 10 fours. Joe Gatting (22) and skipper Kirk Wernars (27) also chipped in as the hosts won by six wickets.
The Seconds are back in action at Horsham again today when they entertain the same opponents in the Second Eleven Championship (a three-day match). Play begins at 11.00am this morning and entrance is of course FREE
