2ND XI: Rain dominates Hampshire friendly

Laurie Evans top-scored for Sussex

The 2nd XI drew a rain-dominated three-day friendly with Hampshire at Horsham last week (Tuesday 29th – Thursday 31st August).

After winning the toss and batting first, Sussex made 426-7 declared. There were contributions throughout the order, with no dismissed batsman making fewer than 29. Laurie Evans top-scored with 118, whilst captain Phil Salt made 55.

Hampshire reached 31-1 by the end of day one, George Garton taking the wicket of Jimmy Adams.

Wet-weather prevented any play on day two and prompted Hampshire to declare their first innings and Sussex to forfeit their second.

The 2nd XI begin their final match of the season today (Monday 4th August). They take on Middlesex in a four-day friendly at The Blackstone Academy Ground sponsored by Hurstpierpoint College. Play starts at 10.30am on all three days.
