2ND XI: Sussex ahead going into final day09-Aug-2012
Sussex Seconds took a lead of 119 runs into their three-day friendly with Essex at Stirlands CC after a rain-affected day yesterday.
With play not beginning until 1.10pm on Day Two, Sussex had declared from their overnight position of 264 for 9 and the visitors went on to make 214 for 7, declaring well behind Sussex’s total, as they batted for 68 overs.
Lewis Hatchett was the star with the ball for the hosts, taking 4 for 42 whilst Billy Godleman (61) and Tim Phillips (60) were the mainstays of Essex’s batting.
Sussex’s second innings didn’t follow the pattern of their first though as they collapsed to 69 for 8 with only Andy Hodd (23), Ollie Graham (10) and Michael Rippon (10 not out) battling through.
Play resumes at 11.00am this morning at Stirlands with Sussex resuming 119 runs ahead of Essex. Entrance is of course FREE
