2ND XI: Sussex hit back to claim victory at Stirlands09-Aug-2012
Sussex’s Second Eleven hit back on the third day of their three-day friendly against Essex at Stirlands CC, to win the match by 45 runs.
Resuming in the precarious position of 69 for 8, Sussex managed to extend their lead to 157 as they were bowled out for 107. Some good late order resistance from trialist Hugo Peterson (29 not out) ensured the visitors were set a target of 158 to win, whilst there were three wickets apiece for Essex’s Tim Phillips and Tymal Mills.
But the hosts were in rampant form with the ball as Essex collapsed to only 112 all out. Academy seam prospect Matthew Hobden (pictured) took 4 for 32 including the final wicket of Adam Soilleux to seal victory. Lewis Hatchett claimed figures of 3 for 13 from 11 overs whilst there were also wickets for the spin pairing of Josh Poysden and Michael Rippon.
The Second Eleven are next in action on Monday 13th August when they face Hampshire at Horsham in a Second Eleven Trophy (one-day) match. Play begins at 12.00pm and entrance is of course FREE
