2ND XI: Sussex on top going into Day Three

05-Jul-2012

Sussex’s Second Eleven are 190 runs ahead of their opponents Gloucestershire going into Day Three of their Second Eleven Championship match at The PROBIZ County Ground, Hove.

After resuming yesterday morning on 115 without loss, Sussex batted through to 315 for 8 before declaring. Luke Wells could only add a single to his overnight score as he made 71 whilst opening partner Will Adkin made 65.

Skipper Kirk Wernars (46) and Andy Hodd (41) both made useful contributions in the top order whilst a lusty 33 not out from James Anyon, which took only 20 deliveries, propelled Sussex over the 300 mark. Matthew Taylor was the pick of the bowlers for the visitors taking 3 for 56.

In reply, Gloucestershire finished the day on 125 for 6 as left-arm seamer Lewis Hatchett ripped through the visiting top-order. His figures at the end of the day showed 4 for 8 whilst he missed out on the chance of a hat-trick after swiftly removing Jack Taylor and Lloyd Evans. Anyon and Monty Panesar picked up the other two wickets whilst Cameron Herring will resume unbeaten on 49 when play resumes this morning.

Day Three is set to begin at 11.00am and entrance is FREE at as the sun shines down on Hove this morning. Follow the updates via Twitter HERE or on Cric HQ HERE (where you can view a full scorecard).
